If you're under 8-years-old this one is for you

Okay, no need to say anything too negative about the just released teaser trailer for Yogi Bear as it pretty much does just fine on its own proving it's not for the 8-years and older crowd.

The film is based on the 1960s cartoon featuring a picnic basket stealing bear named Yogi, which will be voiced by Dan Aykroyd. Justin Timberlake will voice Boo Boo Bear, the uncertain relative of Yogi's as they work with their nemesis Ranger Smith (Tom Cavanagh) to find a way to save Jellystone Park from closing forever. Eric Brevig (Journey to the Center of the Earth) directed the film which co-stars Anna Faris (The House Bunny), T.J. Miller (Cloverfield) and Andy Daly (The Informant!).

I've added the trailer directly below and don't be too surprised if it isn't for you. Also, tell me why you would hire Justin Timberlake to voice Boo Boo if he's going to change his voice entirely. I know it helps getting a certain audience in to see the movie, but based on the trailer is that audience going to even see this movie?

Yogi Bear hits theaters on December 17 and if you'd like a nice giant-sized look at the poster click here.

Too bad. I was born in the early 90's and grew up watching reruns on cartoon network. Would it be naive to think that I expected more?

  3. Josh

I think it will be a movie i'll take my goddaughter to and something that wont be awful. just harmless fun for the kids they need movies too!

Let's not forget that the original movie (HEY THERE, IT'S YOGI BEAR) was also aimed at young kids and this film looks pretty faithful to the simple slapstick of the cartoon. I'd rather see it left to a straight kids' audience than the usual routine they take of filling it with toilet humour in an attempt to get the 13-year olds in.

Ok…. that actually makes the Scooby Doo movies watchable, quick question that wouldn't be AC/DC on the soundtrack would it? It just sounds like Brian Johnson singing over the pic-a-nic snatching.

After re-watchin the trailer i've managed to decipher that it is def not Brian Johnson singing over the soundtrack… shame too that may have made the movie durable.

I actually don't think it looks as bad.

This will do just fine. Families will go and kids will enjoy. You know, when you have movies like Wall-E and Up that are more enjoyed by the parents than the actual kids, it's nice to see some cartoons out there directed only to kids with jokes and visual gags that they will not only enjoy, but also understand. Nothing wrong with going for 8 and under once in a while. Not everything has to be Toy Story 3.

I agree. Its selfish to say that a movie is bad because it is aimed at a younger crowd. My 6-year-old brother has hated both Wall•E, Ratatouille and Toy Story 3. I don't blame him, those movies were full of humor that is aimed at an older crowd. And why would my little brother care about Ratatouille's coverage of cuisine or Wall•E's environmental plot? Not only would he not care, but he wouldn't understand.

      @Oscar Smarty

Really? Something is wrong with a 6 year old who maybe didn't get the whole growing up, moving on with your life and forgetting about your toys aspect? Or maybe he didn't get the innuendos? Geez, you must either know a lot of brainiac 6 year olds or never met one in your life.

Is it just me or does Timberlake sound suprisingly good as Boo Boo? Can't say they same fo Aykroyd's take.

  9. connor

Kinda like the scooby doo movie.

Real nice using gay as a term for something that's bad. Shows maturity.

Anyway, I'm surprised with this movie. The trailer had no fart jokes at all! I'm actually somewhat interested in this now, even though it's made for kids…

So many of the so called kid's movies these days are aimed at teenager/young adult audience. It's nice to see a wholesome family movie that does indeed look to be designed for young kids.

And Brad, your comment about Justin Timberlake not using his own voice is kind of stupid. He is voicing Boo Boo. Isn't he not supposed to sound like Boo Boo. I think he nailed it by the way.

As someone who tore into this based on the poster, I have to admit that the teaser trailer makes it look like a decent (if still cheap looking) bit of family entertainment. Nice job by both the voice leads, and I enjoy Tom Cavanagh as the straight man.

  12. Seiko

Well, it looks way better than Underdog, Chipmunks, Smurfs, etc, in that they are actually in the proper setting in regards to the source material, or don't look like real bears (because it's a movie of a cartoon for god sakes, why alter).
In other words, no useage of real animals over anthromorphic characters, no "downsizing", at least it will be a movie of "Yogi Bear" and not "in-name only."

  13. doesn't look that bad. not nearly as bad as how the smurfs movie looks. or the new cats and dogs movie looks. I think timberlake has nailed it and dan aykroyd sounds good too. the poster makes it look like it was gonna be animated. did anybody else get that impression?
