Write for RopeofSilicon
The Site
Want to write about movies? Want to write DVD reviews? How about gossip on all the celebrity goings ons? Well, RopeofSilicon is opening its doors for the first time to new writers. When the site began in 2003 it was just Brad Brevet, since then he has brought in regular contributer Laremy Legel and Award Show Guru Andre Rivas. However, we need more... and that could mean you.

There are a few things to consider when applying, applications not meeting all the requirements will not be considered. The list of requirements is as follows:

  • You MUST be over the age of 21 years-old and a United States resident. Proof will be required.

  • You MUST be able to commit to the position and be serious about your application. Traditionally we ask that you make a commitment of at least 6 months and agree to fulfill all the duties of the job to which you are applying.

  • You MUST be a good writer. This can include a variety of things but most importantly it means your work does not contain spelling and grammatical errors and you read through your work before publishing. RopeofSilicon takes pride in its writers and hopes that you will take pride in the work you contribute.

  • You MUST have some .HTML knowledge. This does not mean you need to know how to code an entire website, but it does mean that you know how to make text italicized, bold and how to create hyperlinks as examples.

  • It is helpful if you have some knowledge on how to manipulate images using programs such as Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks or even Microsoft Paint works. This is not a deal breaker but will certainly help.
Check out the available positions below and follow the instructions of each to apply for any of the positions. Only serious applications will be considered, so please don't waste our time or yours.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS
Op/Ed Writer
WHAT: Like movies? Like discussing movies? Then this is the place for you. RopeofSilicon is looking for writers that quite simply enjoy writing about movies.

Topics for articles are, for the most part, wide open. I only ask they pertain to movies and geared toward recent news and information or bring to light classic films often overlooked or perhaps forgotten by today's younger movie fans. The hope is to keep the world of film alive and fresh, which includes making sure the films that inspired the movies of today are not forgotten.

This, however, doesn't mean I want a snobby approach to such a position. I want people to have fun and let their personality leak into their writing. Snarky and sarcastic commentary is encouraged as long as you are able to keep yourself in check within reason.

WHEN: There are no specific timeframes for the position, but the goal is to find someone who can write an article once or twice a week and hopefully deliver that article on the same day(s) each week. Of course, there is no limit to the amount of articles you can write for the site, but just know we realize writing for free is not something to be taken lightly.
PAY: This is a position that pays an undetermined once-a-year payment payed in late December. It is for this reason any writer for RopeofSilicon.com will enjoy a vast amount of freedom.
APPLY NOW: Email us at writeforrope@ropeofsilicon.com to apply for this position. When emailing be sure to let us know why you feel you are the person for the job. Writing examples in Microsoft Word .doc format are helpful as is information on how well you know HTML and image editing programs.
