Do you have a passion for movies? Can you write? If so, Brad Brevet and RopeofSilicon.com needs your help. There's more news and information out there than just one man can sort through alone and I am now looking for people to join the team.
Before reading on, take note of one important thing, at this moment the site cannot afford to pay anyone so all positions are strictly looked at as volunteer positions. If making money is your expectation then I suggest you don't read further, right now the site simply cannot accomodate you. However, iIf you're still interested, there are a few other requirements you will need to meet before applying.
REQUIRED:
Only Serious Candidates Need Apply: I have tried this before and people either email in and then don't email back, or they submit a couple of stories only to realize it's not as easy as they thought it would be and then I never hear from them again. Please, only if you really want to take on this position and are willing to commit to at least six months of work send in your information. You Must be 18 Years of Age or Older: There is absolutely no working around this. It's either you're 18-years-old or not. Sorry.
You Must Know Some HTML: I am not asking for rocket science here. You must know how to add hyperlinks and be able to put words in bold, italics, underline and even You Must Know How and Love to Write and Research: While the three requirements above are important and necessary, this is probably the most important of the bunch, because it's all about writing and it's all about research. The Internet is filled with information and writing for RopeofSilicon.com means disseminating that information and doing so in a way that is clear, concise and most importantly accurate. I can't tell you how embarrassing it is to get something wrong in an article, especially if you are taking a firm stance. It's happened to me and I would hate for it to happen to one of my writers. Commenters can be vicious and they are smart. It's best to be on your toes when it comes to the facts and the way you present them. Spelling and Grammar Must be Important To You: This can include a variety of things but most importantly it means your work does not contain spelling and grammatical errors and you read through your work before submitting it. Mistakes happen, but a quick spell check and a read-through will pretty much catch any and everything that will make your work read much better. RopeofSilicon takes pride in its writers and hopes that you will take pride in the work you contribute.
HELPFUL:
Best if You Know Wordpress or Any Other Blogging Platform: I have created a cheat sheet for how to use the RopeofSilicon article admin, but you wouldn't believe how difficult it can be to explain even that to someone who is green to the whole idea of blogging. This isn't a deal killer, but the longer your learning curve the less likely it will be things will work out. It's simply too time consuming to have to babysit people. Knowledge: If you are applying for this position I assume you read the site regularly and also read other movie news related websites and blogs. That's good, because so often something you write about today has been discussed before or pertains to movies from 10-50 years ago. All that knowledge comes into play and will make you a better and more interesting writer. Film knowledge is especially helpful, I know I wish I had more. Location: I run RopeofSilicon.com out of Seattle, Washington, which is to say I'm not exactly living in the hot bed of the entertainment industry. Writers located anywhere in the world are welcome to apply, but writers in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Austin, London and even folks in Venice, Paris and Berlin are encouraged to apply as the more time you spend writing for the site may open up other opportunities such as press junkets, set visits, film festivals, etc. especially if you live in New York and Los Angeles. Of course, this will all come down to the work you've put into the site along the way, but good work typically pays off and location in those instances is extremely helpful.
AVAILABLE POSITIONS:
There are no available positions at this time.
HOW TO APPLY:
This is the easy part, simply send me an email telling me what position you are applying for and why you think you'd be the best person for the job. I am really looking for smart and witty writers that love movies so much they can't help but want to write and discuss them with others. If that's you, and you meet the above requirements, I want to give you a voice on RopeofSilicon. I look forward to hearing from you! |
