Wow, Prints of 'Deception' Must have Caught On Fire

It's the final weekend of crap folks

I still believe the only reason Fox screened Deception for critics is because no one knew it was coming out and it looks like had those screenings not even occurred it might not have made any money at all. The story is typically about the #1 movie at the box-office, but how can you ignore a film starring Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams that opens on Friday night on 2,000 screens and can't even manage $1 million? Yeah, it brought in only $950,ooo and is poised to end the 3-day weekend at #10 with $2.57 million, just above Street Kings by only $500,000.

As for the top of the heap, it looks like RopeofSilicon's Oracle may redeem himself this weekend as he may hit the top four films.

Tina Fey's Baby Mama brought in $5.52 million on Friday and is estimated to land the #1 spot for the weekend with $15.49 million. At second is the Harold and Kumar sequel with an estimated $5.09 million and should finish second with $13.48 million. Last week's #1 and #2 look to have switched as Forgetting Sarah Marshall should beat The Forbidden Kingdom in their second weekend with Marshall having only a slight drop-off with an expected to top off with $11.6 million and Kingdom making $10.3 million following last week's $20.8 million performance.

Oracle predicted Deception would round out the top five, but it looks like the dreadful Prom Night will earn that spot with an estimated $1.6 million on Friday and an expected $4.25 million for the weekend.

The bottom half of the weekend looks terrible as Nim’s Island, 21 and 88 Minutes continue to dupe people into seeing them.

Below are the estimated 3-day totals courtesy of Fantasy Moguls. Check back tomorrow for final results.

  1. Baby Mama (Universal) – $15.49 million
  2. Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo (Warner Bros) – $13.48 million
  3. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Universal) – $11.6 million
  4. The Forbidden Kingdom (Lionsgate) – $10.34 million
  5. Prom Night (Sony) – $4.25 million
  6. Nim’s Island (Fox) – $4.21 million
  7. 21 (Sony) – $3.93 million
  8. 88 Minutes (Sony) – $3.15 million
  9. Horton Hears a Who (Fox) – $2.59 million
  10. Deception (Fox) – $2.57 million
