UPDATED: Worst Excuse for an Award Show Announces Their Nominees
Wait, so you mean Uwe Boll is a bad director?
UPDATE: Apparently this is a list or "suggestions" and the nominees will be announced later this year. Do not take these to be official nominations.
The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced their nominees for th 2009 Razzie Awards and yet again you can spot the not-so-subtle attempts at humor and the obvious nature of the entire list. The best part of the whole thing is that the way these awards are decided are based on member votes, which means people actually spend – at a minimum – $20 to submit votes and say films such as Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans weren't any good. I wonder, did these people actually go spend money on these movies or are they voting purely on the idea that these movies must be bad? Because if they actually paid to see all of these movies that may be as sad as the award show itself.
Below are the nominees for the 29th Annual Razzie Awards. Notice the addition of Tom Cruise to ensure more people report on this story and the wit that comes with nominating "Al Pacino and His Hair" and "Sylvester Stallone and His Ego" in the Worst Couple category. Must have been some long nights coming up with those genius jokes. Oh, and the inclusion of Uwe Boll in the nominations is a stroke of genius, because that doesn't make these nominations any less redundant or meaningless.
Have fun.

i agree completely w/ the worst movies of 2008, but the actors…not tom cruise…he was good in valkyrie. other than that this list is ok. i liked indiana jones 4 until the very end, other than alot of it was unrealistic but i still loved 90% of the movie. M. Night Shymalan is a good director, he has just had a rough time ever since SIGNS came out, actually LADY IN THE WATER wasnt a total loss, but he is going to have a big come back some day!
I'm a little surprised that High School Musical made the list. Even if I didn't care for the film, I thought it had a lot more support than any of the other films on that list.
Really? Speed Racer and The Day the Earth Stood Still worst of the year? They're not great by any stretch but are 100 times better than the films they share the list with.
Zooey Deschanel?!!!! What is wrong with these people? Zooey is one, if not, the most underrated actresses working today. And this doesn't help her get an recognition.
It´s a pretty good list for worst movies but i have to say that what the f… is RAMBO doing in there?
It´s definitely better that part 2 or 3…or better that paradise alley or rocky5…well Stallone has more than one bad movie. anyway Worst Career Achievement for Stallone is pretty far.
And what comes for good Shootém up action movies…New Rambo is the best i´ve seen in a long long time!
Indiana Jones??? HSM3???
What about CRAPLIGHT???
This is just the shortlist, right? I would think they would keep to their time-honoured tradition of announcing their nominations the day before the Oscar nominations are announced.
Is there some deadline for a crap movie to release in theatres before they can get a nomination? I know that guy before me mentioned "Twilight" ("CRAPLIGHT???" as he put it), and "The Spirit" has no nominations here as well.
Oh, and I can enjoy the Razzies sometimes, but you're right, they're jumping on the hate bandwagon, especially since some of these films ("Rambo", "Valkyrie") are decent if not good.
Predictions for the awards (in case anyone cares)
"Love Guru" will upset for Worst Pic since it's Mike Myers's big comeback that failed.
As such, Mikey will take Worst Actor as well.
Paris Hilton, Worst Actress FTW, and I'm gonna go with Al Pacino and his hair for worst couple (that hair, much like "88 Minutes" was pretty awful).
Worst Director: M. Night, because hating on him is SOOO cool now-a-days.
Worst Rip-Off- "Disaster Movie"- it's the "Best Film Editing" (a.k.a. the consolation prize) of the Razzies
And Career Achievement- My logic screams Madonna, but I'm going with Uwe Boll, because…yeah.
It's obvious now that paying members vote for the awards. Because how else could Tom Cruise get Worst Actor? He did a great job in "Valkyrie," in fact; he's only on this list because people hate that he's a Scientologist.
And why are there so many nominations for each category? I thought it was normally 5, like the Oscars.
Tom Cruise was good in Valyrie. These guys are on drugs!!
Where… is… TWILIGHT?!?!?!?!?!?!
ZOOEY DESCHANEL AND MARK WAHLBERG WERE PERFECT!!!!
Seems like these guys have it it out for Stallone if i'm not mistaken he has been on there list for every film he's had since Rhinestone
Don't hate on Stallone. The Razzies are totally full of themselves.
What about War, Inc.? I think John Cusack Joshua Seffel, Hilary Duff, and Ben Kingsley all deserve to be on this ballot for this little piece of unpatriotic tripe, especially Cusack since he helped write and produce that crap movie.
Geez, not even The Happening or Indy 4 deserve to be on this shortlist, and I'll be the first to admit they weren't exactly stellar. I say this because there's actually some level of good filmmaking and accomplishment about both those films (oh no, praise for Indy 4? Quick, get out the pitchforks and torches!), which is more than can be said for anything Uwe Boll or Friedberg & Seltzer churn out.
Though the Razzies stopped being relevant when Paul Verhoeven showed them all up and accepted his Showgirls award. And then Halle Berry drove it home and rubbed it in their faces for Catwoman.
There are some names who doesn´t deserve that kind of "recognition":
Zooey Deschanel
M. Night Shyamalan
Jennifer Connelly
Is MARK WAHLBERGs nod for "The Happening" or "Max Panye"? I think he was more boring as Max…
except for paris hilton and eddie murphy the list this year sucks
OK, I see what you are saying about poor excuse for an award. A lot of good work went into these films, even if it was only behind the scenes. And in years past I've seen many a potentially good film ruined by one of the final steps, the edit. But let's be clear, this is not saying these are crap actors, directors, etc. Just that they made crap in this instance. You gotta have a sense of humor! Did you read Roger Ebert when he commented that after his first stint in the hospital he got a bouquet of flowers from Rob Schneider? Rob Schneider inspired the title to Roger's book, "Your Film Sucks." Roger responded to the gesture by saying he may call them as he sees them but that he never wishes anything but success for everyone in the future. Hear, hear.
@Patricia: I'm not saying it is bad because work went into the movies. I am saying it is bad because it just is. Do I really need a group of people to tell me Disaster Movie wasn't good and include Tom Cruise in the same category as a way to attract attention?
I am far more interested in Worst of lists from people that didn't even bother to see these movies and ended up disappointed or hating movies of an expected higher caliber.
There is an interview with the Razzie people on Defamer.com. YOU are mentioned as "that guy from Rope of Silicon." Seems that this is not the definitive list but only a list of possible nominees.
yea, where the F is twilight. and robert pattinson, the lameass fu@k$ who came up with this list put tom cruise for valkyrie which was actually good, but dont put on twilight which was god awfully but not nearly as bad as robert pattinsons performance in in it.
this just shows the razzies are run by a bunch of stupid twilight fans and harry potter fans who hate on everything else
What a hell!!? RAMBO IV!!!?? THIS movie was best action movie for years and Stallone get shit because HE IS ONLY who have a balls to do it like these movies! Okay Tarantino can but still!!!
I`m sorry but Hollywood sucks and these "A-list action directors" are too wussy to make something new and what makes good action movie. We just see superhero, superhero and more superhero movies!! And PG-13 movie whith lame action. Or they focuse more CGI and story sucked and actors are just sexy but acting sucks!!
But it seems to that European rule the movie industry and that is good thing.
How about Andy Sandberg for hot rod, both worst actor and movie
Zooey Deschanel is a fine, talented actress, I like her a lot. But yes, she deserves a nomination for her abysmal performance in THE HAPPENING. All the actors in that film are sooooo bad. But I think that's the only bad performance by Ms. Deschanel.
Why are these c***s nominating Rambo? It was the best action movie for years, they seem to have a lot against Stallone. The list pretty much f*****g sucks.
Fuck this list. Postal was awesome!
