Woody Allen's Next Pulls In Naomi Watts
Brolin and Hopkins and now Wattage!
I like Naomi Watts and I was reminded of that while watching The International earlier this year. While that film didn't exactly showcase her talents, she certainly didn't allow the rather blah role get in the way. It was a role she really could have played to the hilt, which would have resulted in an ugly performance and would have been singled out as one had she over-stepped the character's abilities. Instead she reined it in and came out unscathed. I will say I didn't care for her film Funny Games, but she was fine in it, and I thought Peter Jackson really took things too far in trying to humanize King Kong for that role to ever be considered great. However, she was great in Eastern Promises and I unfortunately missed — and still plan on catching one day — The Painted Veil. This all on top of her nominated performance in 21 Grams and her breakout role in David Lynch's Mulholland Dr.. And now, she is moving on to more fun.
Variety reports Watts is set to join Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins in Woody Allen's next picture which is currently untitled and without a plotline. All we know is that it is a return to Europe for Allen. The new film shoots in London this summer and reteams the director with financier, Mediapro, the Spain-based company which also funded Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
The cast alone is enough to get me excited and I can't wait for Allen's next, but regular readers already know I am just chomping at the bit to see Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood in Allen's Whatever Works which releases on June 19 in NY/LA.

I also heard Frieda Pinto will star in this film
@Violet: Where did you hear that?
It was on the View. I think. SHe said she was working on Woody Allen's next with Josh Brolin.
Model-turned-actress Freida Pinto will follow her movie debut in Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire with a role in legendary filmmaker Woody Allen's next picture.
The 24-year-old was stunned when the Danny Boyle-directed film took home eight honours – including Best Picture and Best Director – at the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday.
And the young star has credited Boyle with helping her to catch the eye of three-time Oscar winner Allen, who's made huge stars out of young Hollywood actresses, including Scarlett Johansson.
Asked of the collaboration on U.S. morning news programme Today, she says: "Yes, it's up (begins) in July. So thank you, Danny Boyle, for helping me take off."
Actually it was the Today Show. This was on IMDB from Wenn news.
I like Naomi as well, the Painted Veil was pretty good.
@beautifulm: Yeah, I also found the story on Entertainment Weekly and just added a post. Thanks for the heads up!
You should catch "The Painted Veil", not only for Naomi Watts performance, but
Edward Norton's as well. Beautifully acted and photographed.
