Wiseman Negotiating to Helm 'Escape from New York'
Things keep moving along
This had already been mentioned by IESB, but today The Hollywood Reporter confirms the news that Live Free or Die HardLen Wiseman is in negotiations to direct Escape from New York, a remake of the classic John Carpenter movie. The film already stars Gerard Butler as Snake Plissken and it was one of two films IESB mentioned in connection to Len Wiseman, the other being the feature film adaptation of "Gears of War".
As for Escape from New York, Ken Nolan wrote the script, which combines an origin story for Snake Plissken merged with the story of the 1981 movie. The original film was set in a futuristic 1997, when Manhattan had been turned into a giant maximum-security prison. The U.S. president's plane crashed on the island, and Plissken — incarcerated for robbing a federal reserve bank — was coerced into a rescue mission.
There is no word on a start date.
