Will We Have Dueling Sherlock Holmes Features?
Comedy versus ... hmmm, what do we call a Guy Ritchie movie?
At the beginning of June it was reported that Guy Ritchie would be writing and directing a film adaptation of super sleuth Sherlock Holmes. Ritchie's Sherlock is said to take its cues from a forthcoming comic that Lionel Wigram wrote as a selling tool for a new take on the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character. The concept sees the character be more adventuresome and less stuffy than previous screen incarnations and mines on more obscure character traits.
Well, it appears Ritchie isn't the ony one interested in Sherlock as Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) will write a script which Judd Apatow will produce.
Starring in the comedy will be Sacha Baron Cohen as Sherlock and Will Ferrell as Watson, his crime-solving partner. Cohen and Ferrell last teamed on the dreadful Talladega Nights for Adam McKay. The only difference this time is that now Ferrell is playing second fiddle to Cohen. My what a few years and some failed movies can do to a career. However, I have to say this does sound like it could be very funny.
Columbia Pictures will distribute the project with a director yet to be named. There is also no word on what direction the film will be taking.
