Will Danny Boyle Direct the Next James Bond Film?

It's probably rubbish, but I will give it virtual ink anyway

The Sun is reporting Barbara Broccoli, the head of the 007 franchise at EON Productions, is one of a series of major players said to have approached Danny Boyle in recent days. The report goes on to say Boyle is also good friends with Bond producer Callum McDougal, with whom he filmed the 2000 film The Beach.

Unfortunately, as logical as it sounds considering Boyle's stock is now on the rise following the recent Oscar success of Slumdog Millionaire, the Sun is a gossipy UK rag typically proven to be wrong.

The quote from the Sun reports a source saying, "[Boyle] has been offered the chance to direct the 23rd Bond film by Barbara. The EON team love his vision and think that it would work perfectly for the new look of Bond.

"[With] Daniel Craig's involvement and the way the films are now structured — with the emphasis on the characters and plot rather than gags and gadgets — it is right up Danny's street… Everyone on the EON team thinks Danny would be a fantastic addition to the Bond family."

I could easily see Boyle sliding into the franchise continuing with the gritty feel of the franchise while at the same time bringing a little more life to the production. It could be a good fit.

He could certainly give it an interestingly different look. But how would he be with action?

I don't think he would have problems with the action. 28 Days Later do have some nice (little) action sequences.
A better resumé for that than Marc Forster, that never directed any movie with any kind of action whatsoever before Quantum of Solace and, guess what, created the most action packed movie in the entire franchise!

Danny Boyle would be a great choice.
But the perfect choice is Christopher Nolan, of course! And he's a Bond fan, so there's hope!

Action would surely be a major concern.

As much as I love Danny Boyle, he's always been at his best without studio pressure. Unless you happen to prefer Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Sunshine Slumdog Millionaire to A Life Less Ordinary and The Beach. Maybe Slumdog giving Boyle his first oscar and blockbuster will give him more creative freedom with Bond but I'd personally give the job back to Martin Campbell and let Danny Boyle film that musical he wanted to do. (You know if anyone could pull it off its Danny Boyle.)

I think Danny Boyle would craft a phenomenal Bond-Flick. I hope the British rag is right for once. I just hope Daniel Craig is allowed to do at least two more bond flicks, he has proven himself to be the best and most accessible Bond in history – my apologies to Sean Connery & Pierce Brosnan.

I definitely think that with the new direction that the Bond series has taken, Boyle is the perfect choice.
