When Viral Marketing Proves Your Movie is Awful
COMMENT
Can 'Mall Cop' come back from this? Do we care?
We all knew Mall Cop would be awful, so, no surprise there. However, did you ever think it would be this bad?
Below is a video that is supposed to be funny. It isn't. It is also supposed to be viral, which means many websites such as RopeofSilicon post it on their site in order to promote the film. Well, that worked. I am not sure if their goal was to get websites to trash the shit out of it, but that also worked. As if the January 16, 2009 release date didn't say it all…
You see, he is on a Segueway with a police siren. That's funny!

OK, so I'm not a huge fan of the viral video. Fine. But unlike Brad, I've actually seen Mall Cop. It was at an audience screening last week in Huntington Beach. It was a little like an Adam Sandler movie (not a surprise since Kevin James co-starred with him in Chuck & Larry), and if you like good, old-fashioned comedy, you'll have fun. Everyone I could see laughed throughout.
Don't be so quick to judge based on an improvised video with a skater. Otherwise you'll miss a really funny film.
