What are You Watching This Weekend?

I'm in Vegas so I open the floor to you

cirque-oWell, I'm in Las Vegas so I won't be watching any movies this weekend. Last night I did see Cirque du Soliel's "O" at the Bellagio, which was quite entertaining, but we don't have any movies on the itinerary so I'm going to have to leave the discussion up to you this week.

The Wolverine is in theaters and Blue Jasmine is hitting theaters in New York and Los Angeles while The Conjuring is entering its second weekend at the box office and looking to continue on its massive opening last weekend.

I also hope some of you seek out Fruitvale Station and The Way, Way Back as both are expanding into 1,064 and 886 theaters nationwide respectively. Both are worth a trip to the cinema.

Other than that, I'm all ears (or eyes considering this is the Internet), what are you watching this weekend?

Nothing definitive, but I've got Witness, Sherlock Jr., The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, To Each his Own Cinema and The Wind that Shakes the Barely all ready to go. I'll also be watching Only God Forgives again at some point.

    • http://letterboxd.com/gman/ G-Man

Do you think you might like OGF more the second time around?

      • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/AS/ AS

        Hope so.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Chris138/ Chris138

I'm not sure how much of a Buster Keaton fan you are but Sherlock Jr. is a lot of fun. I haven't seen Witness in years but I remember liking it a lot.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Hudsucker/ Hudsucker

Possibly Galaxy Quest and Wreck-it Ralph.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Hudsucker/ Hudsucker

      oh and possibly Mud

  • http://letterboxd.com/gman/ G-Man

I love "O" - such an amazing show.

Heading to the Jersey shore this weekend, so not sure if I'm gonna be able to watch anything. May check out "The Hunt", "Fruitvale Station", "Only God Forgives", or "Blue Jasmine" on Sunday night.

    • http://www.twitter.com/GregDinskisk GregDinskisk

I second that about "O". Not my favorite Cirque show, but it's phenomenal.

Have you seen any others? "Alegría" is phenomenal, as is their new one, "Zarkana." I love them. The music is amazing.

      • http://letterboxd.com/gman/ G-Man

Only other one I've seen is Mystere at Treasure Island in Vegas. Also fantastic!

Would love to see the others.

I watched Die Hard 5 this morning. I'm a big fan of 1 and 3 from that series but I must admit I found myself spacing out often during the latest. I sort of expect at least some competent storytelling from this series, even if it's formulaic. Maybe next time.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Kessler/ Kessler

I might rewatch Mud over the weekend. Other than that, I've got nothing else planned.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/HelloKitty/ Hello Kitty

I'm still waiting for your review of The Lord of the Flies.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/andyluvsfilms/ andyluvsfilms

I've got Reality to watch tomorrow morning which looks quite interesting, other than that I would like to see The Lion Of Winter and The Searchers if i have time.
    Have a nice weekend y'all.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/AS/ AS

Reality is one of the best films of the year. The Lion in Winter is terrific.

Just watched Reality, terrific film with some real open mouth moments

I'm seeing Fruitvale today! Debating whether I should watch the first twenty minutes of Wolverine as well.

I finally watched The Help last night, pretty good movie. The scenery reminded me a lot of Django Unchained, which I guess makes sense since they're both set in Mississippi.

  • http://couchpotatodigest.blogspot.com Matt Taylor

Tonight my friends and I are watching "Princess Mononoke", and later tonight I'll be checking out "Only God Forgives." Tomorrow I'm seeing "The Way Way Back" and will probably watch something else too. So it will (hopefully) be a good weekend.

I've already seen a fair bit this week, The To Do List, We're the Millers, many episodes of Black is the New Orange, and more. I'm planning to catch Fruitvale Station and The Wolverine this weekend, but I'll probably only end up watching one. I'm seeing Rocky Horror tonight at midnight again, which I'm excited about.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Ryguy815/ Ryguy815

How was We're The Millers? I'm really excited for it.

      • http://www.twitter.com/GregDinskisk GregDinskisk

        A LOT better than I expected. I was expecting a D- to D+ movie, and it wasn't.

        • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Ryguy815/ Ryguy815

Glad to hear that it's good!

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Ryguy815/ Ryguy815

Depending on how my saturday goes, I'll be able to probably get through my criterions I just bought including, Battle of Algiers, On The Waterfront, Solaris, and Repulsion.

Today I'll be seeing Blackfish and either The Hunt or I'm So Excited. Then maybe Fight Club tonight at a Midnight showing.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Chris138/ Chris138

The Hidden Fortress, Seven Beauties, Tokyo Story and Red Beard are all waiting to be watched over the next few days. I'm considering checking out The Wolverine as well, even though I haven't followed the X-Men films at all.

  • http://www.smartfilm.blogspot.com SmartFilm

I'm hoping that I don't watch anything this weekend. Definitely will not be attending this Sunday's screening of Smurfs 2. *Buhhhhhhhhhhh*

Fruitville Station and The Way Way Back just came to the theater near me so I'm hoping to catch those this weekend.

  • jessied44

Theater The Wolverine and Mud on streaming.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/dlhartzog/ david hartzog

Just received The Driver Bluray, so that's on tap. Some episodes from the real Avengers, Untamed, Persona, La Guerre est Finie, Rio Conchos, and Endeavour on Sunday evening.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Jake17/ Jake17

I might get my family to go to The Way, Way Back. I'm pretty sure they'll love it. Other than that, I'll watch a fair bit of Breaking Bad but I have no set plans to watch any movies.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Newbourne/ Newbourne

I sat down tonight and watched the first seven episodes of "Orange is the New Black". Pretty damn good show. I'll probably be finishing up the season tomorrow or later this week.

Other than that, I'm planning on revisiting some great movies I haven't seen in a LONG time. I already saw "Memento" and "Gangs of New York" a few days ago, but I'll be catching up with "The Shawshank Redemption", "The Usual Suspects", "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Dr. Strangelove" later this week.

I don't know what else I have in mind. Nothing in theaters is really doing much for me. I already caught The Wolverine and am not interested in anything else.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/bcf26/ bcf26

The Kings of Summer, and probably Mud.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Winchester/ Winchester

No plans as yet at all. I haven't really been in the mood this week to watch a lot outside a couple of rentals that came through. Nothing spectacular. Nothing lined up for the weekend especially either so 'WIW, WYW' should be relatively quick this week for me!

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Winchester/ Winchester

Ah, my weekend has been saved................my new Blu Ray copy of The Apartment arrived today. Film plus commentary plus some additional interviews not previously on my DVD version. Saturday is now sorted out just fine!

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Art/ Art

I'm real busy this weekend, hope to catch the latest episode of The Bridge.

This week I saw the first Despicable Me with the kids. Must say I enjoyed it. Found it funny and very touchy. I felt the comedy was well varied. I liked the way it touched on interesting issues and molding them into a good family film (8/10).

  • http://mattrisnes.blogspot.com/ Matt Risnes

I saw The Wolverine, and while I usually disagree with Brad and Laremy when it comes to blockbuster summer entertainments, I'm on the same page as far as this lifeless pile of inert drivel is concerned. Apparently made for people who were dying to see a Wolverine film where Logan spent the majority of the film supine or generally knocked out. It goes from waking up in a cave to endless sequences laying in bed with Jean Grey and the way-too-young-to-be-his-love-interest Mariko to passes out on multiple operating tables to falling asleep in cars to being knocked out by a poisonous arrow despite having regained his healing factor.

I went with my father and son, the latter who followed Logan's suit and fell asleep for the entire second act, the former who kept fidgeting and asking to go to the bathroom. There's no way his bladder was so frequently full, I just assume a trip to the urine stench of a public restroom was preferable to enduring anymore of The Wolverine's overwrought tedium. What a wretched disappointment.

I ended up watching Bernie last night. It was underwhelming. Everyone oversold it to me as the most underrated film of 2012. It was okay. B- maybe.

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/andyluvsfilms/ andyluvsfilms

Probably the best acting we've seen from Jack Black though

      • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Newbourne/ Newbourne

I still think High Fidelity is his best performance. Bernie is up there though. With School of Rock, that rounds up his best performances to date. None of them are STELLAR though.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/topyxyz/ topyxyz

Saw The Wolverine last night. Poor execution but not a stupid film at all. I give it a C.

Aside from that, I'm thinking of seeing the rest of Roger Moore's James Bond films...continuing with The Man With The Golden Gun.

  • Joseph Bridges

I did a double feature of Fruitvale Station and The Way Way Back. I had to do a fun film following the soul crushing I received from FS.

  • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile/Elijah/ Elijah

I'm really excited to finally catch Fruitvale Station tonight. Having just inflicted Movie 43 upon myself I feel like I earned it. Also just finished Dead Man Down which was surprisingly entertaining but the constant somberness was a bit off-putting.

Lastly saw Monsters University last week and it's probably the worst Pixar film I've seen, an overload of pastel colored monsters and a couple visual gags can only take you so far.
