Last week there were some Blu-ray deals to note and this week there are a couple more. Here's a list of some I found particularly intriguing:

With Father's Day coming up it only makes sense that these titles are priced to move, and with the sale items out of the way, let's have a look at this week's new crop.

Battle: Los Angeles
Kevin just wrote up an entertaining review for this Blu-ray, which you can read right here. After reading it I was trying to figure out how his thoughts compared to mine when I gave the film a "C+" in my review back in March and I can't disagree with anything he said as this simply was Black Hawk Down meets District 9 meets several other films it tried to mimic. Truth is, it's loud and dumb and sometimes that's just what you need, but I think I'll stick with The Mummy as my go-to stupid movie, though I wouldn't be surprised if someone decides on this one.

Insignificance (Criterion Collection)
Last week I reviewed five Criterion titles as I am catching up on the backlog caused by my trip to the Cannes Film Festival. This week I am preparing another five for next week and Nicolas Roeg's Insignificance will be one of those five. In fact, it's the only one of the five I haven't yet watched so unfortunately I can't tell you what I though of it, but the idea of the director of Walkabout and The Man Who Fell to Earth directing a comedy with a plot like this has me certainly intrigued. Here's how it reads:

In Insignificance four unnamed people who look and sound a lot like Albert Einstein (Michael Emil), Marilyn Monroe (Theresa Russell), Joe DiMaggio (Gary Busey) and Joseph McCarthy (Tony Curtis) converge in one New York City hotel room and two of them discover more in common between them than they ever anticipated.

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen
I saw this before heading to Cannes and I just couldn't figure out enough to say about it to write a review. The action is decent, but overall it just isn't a very good film. Fans of Donny Yen should be sure to give it a rent, but I wouldn't recommend you buy it.

Hall Pass
Meh, not a very good film and as far as comedies go for the rest of this summer, I don't see a lot of highlights. Could Bridesmaids end up being the only decent studio comedy this summer?i
Buy Hall Pass
Kill The Irishman
I reviewed this one back in March and it didn't really impress me. Based on the true story of Irish mobster Danny Greene (Ray Stevenson), this film just sort of sits there more interested in montages and car bombs than story and character.

Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son
I know all of you have been dying to add this to your collection. Well, now's your chance.

Red Riding Hood
This Twilight rip-off is terrible. If you're up for a good laugh or an option for a new drinking game then have at it, otherwise, stay clear. If you want reasons why, read my review here.

C'mon man, we've still got Horrible Bosses to look forward to this summer! Even if it's not great, it still has Charlie Day in it, which means it's at least worth a look.

Battle:LA has a really good last 30 minutes, but everything else leading up to that is pretty awful. Not worth much more than a rental IMO.

Liked Hall Pass but I doubt I'll buy it on DVD either.

Yeah, Laremy was trying to tell me the same thing about Horrible Bosses and I agree with you both about Charlie Day, but my god that trailer doesn't inspire confidence. I want it to be good because I also like Bateman, Sudeikis, Farrell and Spacey, but I still can't get over how dumb I thought it looked.

What about Crazy Stupid Love? That looks fantastic.

If I'm buying my dad any DVD, it will likely be True Grit (we haven't seen it, but my dad loves westerns). But I'm not sure.

I think that one looks decent too, but I was thinking more along the lines of just flat-out comedies like Horrible Bosses and The Change-up.
