Mark Waters has certainly upped his profile after the highly successful Lindsey Lohan flick, Mean Girls, as he is now taking over a director's chair once occupied by Steven Spielberg for Paramount Pictures' The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

The film is a remake of the 1947 flick, which was based on a short story by humorist James Thurber. The story found Danny Kaye playing a timid man who daydreamed of being a swashbuckling hero.

Not only was Spielberg once attached to the picture, but Jim Carrey was also set to star for quite some time, before that Ron Howard and Chuck Russell were aboard the picture when Samuel Goldwyn was trying to get it made over at New Line.

For Mark Waters he has recently completed Just Like Heaven with Reese Withersponn and Mark Ruffalo and also has The Spiderwick Chronicles to look forward to behind Mitty.
