Watch the Trailer for Peter Jackson's 'The Lovely Bones'
Will it work? You tell me... will it?
I haven't watched it yet and I am not sure if I want to as I truly loved Alice Sebold's novel and am not sure it can translate to the screen, not because of set imagery I have in my mind, but just because it lives in the mind of a child and I have a hard time that feeling can be duplicated without the steady turn of the page. So, I will allow your comments to tell me if it is a possible Oscar contender, great film or what have you as the trailer for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones has just debuted online.
The film centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.
The Lovely Bones hits theaters on December 11… Check out the trailer below or in high definition at Apple or the film's newly launched official website.

Well, as you already know I didn't like the book. I was extremely disappointed after hearing so many good things about it. I have better hopes for the film.
It looks beautiful, but it seems like they're making it out to be a thriller, I guess for marketing purposes. They could've done without that music. It looks okay, I still want to see it, so hoping for the best.
I love the book, and it looks like they captured the feel perfectly. I am now VERY excited.
That music towards the end is used in so many trailers.
Having not read the book i will judge the trailer for what its worth. This has fantastic ensemble cast sarandon tucci whalberg and the always lovely Rachel Weisz . from what i have read the book is very depressing and yet beautiful in the way it reconciles the family , the trailer doesnt show the reconciliation but it does something spectacular – you get the feeling that this is not a easy story its dark and depressing ( dealing with child abduction murder and possibly worse things is depressing as hell) but the visuals are so stunningly colourful and brightly lit that the contrast is Stunning… i loved the Trailer the music used was also brilliant… and i have high hopes for this film…
hmm… it's too spectacular for the material. I hope it's more simple than this trailer would lead me to believe.
Wow.
I am a HUGE fan of Alice Sebold's novel, and for once it seems like the adaptation has the posibility of being as good as the source material.
Unlike the HORRENDOUS 'My Sister's Keeper' earlier this year that basically took the name and the basic storyline and ran.
This one seems to be staying true to the book, while still adding it's own necessary differences.
Amazing, but then again isn't that expected from Peter Jackson?
WOW! Nothing can beat Nine or Where the Wild Things are but it's up there in my must see of this year. I'm a big fan of Heavenly Creatures and I'm glad to see Peter Jackson coming back to that.
Wow! Thats looks disgustingly AMAZING…something unique and different than the usual dreck thats out there. VIsually stunningj like HOLY SH*T stunning…and looks pretty compelling. And thank god they found Saorise Ronan to play Susie. I was afraid that a 15 year olds voiceover would sound kinda corny…but she really nailed it.
Never read the book, but this trailer is amazing…stunning visuals and the cast looks great. I hope this movie can live up to super high expectations. Dont expect anything less from Peter Jackson.
Peter Jacksons worst carrer move……………………casting Mark Wahlberg
OMG, what are the fanboiz going to say when they go to this movie and theirs no orcs or hobbits in it. The joke will be on them [/sarcasm]
Looks good, but like someone else said it seems like they're selling it as a thriller. I kind of hope the film's tone matches the book a bit more than this leads me to believe it does.
I have very high hopes for Saoirse Ronan. She's a great choice and a great actress. You'd never guess that she's Irish!
@beautifulm: My exact objection. This story is supposed to be about the loving connections we have and inspire in others and that who we truly are never dies, no matter how we die. But they've twisted it all around to be a whodunit. HORRIBLE!
It looks greaaat
Looks good, wouldn't count Rachel Weisz out of a Best Actress nomination.
Was surprised not to see Susan Sarandon for this and Emma Thompson, for An Education, in the Best Supporting Actress category. Both haven't been nominated for a while. Also, sentimental nod for Sophia Loren in Nine? Just a thought….
Had ever read the book and didnt know what to expect, but from the trailer this really does look amazing.
I have high hopes for Mark Wahlbergs performance in this.
Stanley Tucci will be an awesome Mr. Harvey. The ending of the book was weak so i dont know how the movie will be
Nice looking trailer. I expect the movie to be much more striking (obviously). I can't wait for December!
The best trailer I've seen this year, though, is "Nine." Sorry, while I liked the trailer for "Where the Wild Things Are," I don't think it really works as a trailer since it's actually very vague and relies entirely upon name recognition. I'm worried about its box office chances, though I know for a fact that I will contribute at least $8 of its theatrical dollars.
I haven't read the book, but it looks like the trailer basically gave the whole storyline away. It doesn't seem like there's any need to watch anything but the last 30 minutes of the movie to see if it was really the creepy guy with the mustache who killed her…I hate it when trailers do that.
@Danny D.: Nope, the trailer doesn't spoil the movie one bit, it's not a murder mystery…
The trailer looks good. Rachel's performance stands out for me judging by the trailer alone but I like the look of the ensemble cast.
Can't wait to see this one.
The trailer looks awesome. It doesn't spoil anything, that's exactly how the books starts.
Saoirse's voiceover is amazing. Tucci looks creepy. I can't for December to see it.
Love the first half of the trailer. It looks like the new "Heavenly Creatures" (one of my favourite films ever), with all the magical qualities mixed with the sadness of the murder. The second half is weird indeed – the book doesn't rely as much on the "Will they get the killer?", "Will he do it again?" thing. But I'm pretty sure it's just to sell the movie. Much of the book is Susie dealing with her life in heaven while her family tries to deal with the grief. They couldn't sell the movie based on just that.
I'm pretty sure Peter Jackson won't reduce the movie to a thriller. And this cast! Rachel Weisz! Saoirse Ronan! The magnificent Susan Sarandon!
I've never read the novel upon which this film is based; however, since 2001 Peter Jackson has done no wrong. He faithfully adapted J.R.R. Tolkien's fantastical masterpiece and then turned King Kong into a 21st Century realization.
What is the point I'm trying to make? I might want to point to the fact that Peter Jackson has orchestrated box office returns in excess of $3 Billion; however, given the fact that even such putrid filth as Transformers 2 can make nearly $1 Billion worldwide, that doesn't seem to hold much weight.
I'm just pointing to the fact that Peter Jackson has spent the last decade of his life faithfully bringing fantastical films (one based on a work of literary genius) to the table. This is yet another stab at the world of fantasy (albeit the murder mystery kind) and if the trailer is any indication, it should be another success.
I can't wait.
there are a few films i must see before the end of the year
