With an official release date of March 22 set, A24 has premiered the first official trailer for Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers, which I saw last year at the Toronto Film Festival and I called it "one of those films that will likely be reviled by most, find cult status with others and get a shrug of the shoulders from the rest." I fell in the latter category by the way, but I think it's best summed up with this paragraph from my review:

Korine fuels this 92-minutes of drugs, sex, guns and debauchery with a house-infused score that often thumps to a series of images of college students naked and partying on the beach or in hotel rooms. The film is one montage after another, images foreshadowing what's to come surrounded by neon and black lights. It's a theatrical rave experience minus the glow sticks and ecstasy.

The film stars James Franco as a drug-dealing rapper who teams up with four teen girls on their spring break -- Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine -- to carry off everything mentioned above and then some.

Must... Resist... Temptation.... Must not watch trailer....

I've stated before how high my hopes are for this one. Since Gummo, Korine has never even come close to making a film even half as good as his debut masterpiece., I'm hopeful that this will be his return to form.

It definitely looks like it can find cult status with me.

Having not been interested before that trailer really sold me. Looks pretty original and like a fairly hallucinogenic ride. Plus, Franco playing a meat head is always a bonus.

the only reason i want to see this movie is to see james franco's performance. Brad, was it any good?

  • G-Man

Looks like it could be cool - at the same time, I think it could wind up being incredibly awful. Really tough to tell from the trailer.

  • Bren

Will watch just to see all the places from St Petersburg in the film

  • Yaz

Man that film is going to be a trip.

wowzer! Franco is unrecognisible, this guy is slowly becoming a major player but by choosing interesting roles, it could of easily gone so wrong after his Spiderman stint but since 127 Hours he has been reborn
