Watch Now: The Official 'The Dark Knight Rises' Teaser Trailer is Here

Based on the amount of money Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 made this weekend I am assuming most of you already saw the teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, but if not, or if you wanted to watch it over and over again, now you can as Warner Bros. has officially released it along with the first studio issued synopsis. Although, this synopsis gives you absolutely zero story details.

Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' The Dark Knight Rises is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy,

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar winner Christian Bale (The Fighter) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake.

Returning to the main cast, Oscar winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on Batman Begins and the record-breaking blockbuster The Dark Knight. The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Check out the teaser directly below. The Dark Knight Rises is set to hit theaters on July 20, 2012. You can also check out four screen captures from the trailer directly above or in our gallery right here.

  • AJAY

    EPIC !!!!!!!!!! Addictive :D , I watched it over 10 times :)

  • The Dan and Joe Show

My favorite part was the chanting at the end. What does it mean?!?!?!?!

    • Jani

He rises, he rises, something like that

    • AJ

It is the inmates from Arkham Asylum chanting "This is Arkham, Arkham"

  • Winchester

Well, that was thoroughly underwhelming. Wake me when the actual trailer turns up.

    • Aaron S

  • Leandro Dubost

It's a better teaser than that one from The Dark Knight, which only had the logo and a few lines. At least we have one two seconds of Bane footage. =P

But I guess we'll have to wait until december for a real trailer, with more action sequences and a little bit of Catwoman.

  • A K D

Amazing, doesn't give anything away and gives us a glimpse of what we've been waiting to see: Tom Hardy as Bane.

  • Jakob

There's someone captured behind Batman while he's fighting Bane! :O Could it be Selina? Miranda Tate? Gordon?

    • Colin

      It's robin

  • smartfilm

Great teaser. Does anyone else feel like this takes place a number of years after TDK?

  • AJ

That was pretty uninteresting, actually... and making it the "end" of the Batman story seems very artificial, especially when it feels like it they were still just getting started.

  • Colin

Looks terrible. I'll admit it's kind of nice to see Oscar winner Christian Bale in the press release. He should've won an award for his completley unnaturalistic and caricture like portrayal in American Psycho.

  • Yaz

Really didn't dig this too much... Felt it could have been much stronger in a simpler form... Honestly, I dug the TDK teaser with the symbol more than this. But we'll see how it shapes up... Not really digging the Bane look thus far. Le sigh.

  • Ian

Already saw this in front of Harry Potter. Reminds me a bit of the Inception teaser in that it gives the barest in information of what's going on, but has some actual footage as opposed to just the voiceover used in The Dark Knight teaser. This is probably my most anticipated of 2012, followed closely by The Hobbit. Star Trek would be up there as well if they could settle on a firm release date.

  • The Jackal

I see that they are drawing heavily on Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel: chiefly the extended absence of Batman and the cancer of Commissioner Gordon.

I thought the trailer was very nicely done. I'm guessing that was Catwoman climbing out of the sewer and obviously that was Bane confronting Batman at the end. I particularly got a thrill out of seeing Batman retreating (though ready to fight) in the face of Bane. This is obviously a villian that the Dark Knight will struggle against without a clear idea on how to "physically" defeat him.

Awesome stuff...and the soundtrack sounded a bit on the Inception side, which is of course fine by me. The full trailer is gonna be epic. Harry Potter 7 may wanna watch its back on that whole "Biggest opening ever" claim - it just might be shattered again by the franchise that set it back in 2008.

    Thems the facts

    • Euphorhea

I think that's Bruce Wayne climbing out of the abandoned well that he fell into as a child - not Catwoman climbing out of the sewer.

  • MajorFilmFan

Looks EPIC!!! Tom Hardy's Bane looks TERRIFYING!!!!! Seeing the pain and fear in Bruce's face in that final scene makes me think that his is NOT a guy you wanna mess with!!!

Can anyone who knows Bane's origins explain them to me? Is he a burn victum? Acid? Why does he wear the mask?

  • MKing

I wasn't head over heels for the the teaser...but then again its a teaser and it did its job because I want more.

  • ddurden33

this isnt the trailer we deserve, but its the one we need right now.

  • gripmonster

I don't understand why the people who dislike this trailer are so upset. It doesn't come out for over a year and they haven't even finished filming yet, did you expect them to give away a whole lot? This is a great teaser trailer, it lets people know the movie is coming out and leaves them wanting to know more.

  • Badge

    - Footage from the first two films
    - Animated version of the poster
    - Guy lying in bed
    - Brief shots of person climbing up ladder and guy walking towards Batman.

  • Jack

Hopefully this won't suck like Spiderman 3.

  • News Hit

    Re: guy in last frame.

Look closely. That person does not move. It is a poster.

    • Mr.P

      Whau u mean

      • News Hit

The guy is not moving. At all. Look at Bale and Hardy and they are very much moving within the frame. But that person in the final frame does not seem to be even breathing. Also, the image seems flat. It strikes me as a poster or a picture or something.

  • SeanJ8

Since when did a poster have a shadow? haha. Moron..

  • Mr Stark

"Sorry Commissioner, I can't understand a thing you just said. Get well, soon."

  • Mr.P

Just watched Inception and it makes me wonder, What if Nolan puts an Inception ending to this.... I hope not..

  • Steve

Is everyone blind??? Look at the still headshot of Bane from the trailer.......look that Tom Hardy??........ABSOLUTELY NOT.........Nolan has pulled a fast one.......Tom Hardy may be in the film yes......but he does not play Bane........Joseph Gordon-Levitt is BANE..........look at that picture.........look at the eyes and tell me Im wrong

    • Yaz

      Dude... That's Tom Hardy.

    • Hamza Zain

Definitely Tom Hardy. JGL would have had to have gained like 80 pounds to be that size.

      • ddurden33

forget about gaining weight, nolan clearly knows hardy can play bane better than anyone, i doubt he doubts his own judgment.

    • JayRam

    • Derrick

      You're wrong

      • Gavi

        i see what he means

    • A K D

Go watch Bronson. Hardy IS Bane.

  • ddurden33

from a second of what i saw as bane was confronting batman, it looked like it has all the makings to be one of the most epic fight scenes of all time.

  • SteveHD

Great teaser. A grumpling Gotham and an introduction along the lines that Batman has elevated himself into "a legend".

Maybe Batman comes down hard first (in the hands of Bane?), then "rises" ("what if there is no Batman anymore?") towards the end of the movie, as a storyline.

I bet the chant has some key information embedded, somehow.

    • SteveHD

Seems that the information on the "chant" is the twitter account for TheFireRises, which led to the first image of Bane.

  • Tommy

That person in the bg at the end of the teaser looks like someone holding a rifle, and I almost want to believe that it looks like JGL.

  • Topy

    No 3D! Hooray!
