Soon to be seen in Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York

How do you know the Awards Season has started? By the fact The Ides of March opened the Venice Film Festival today and now we have the first domestic trailer for David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method starring Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen and Keira Knightley.
A Dangerous Method will also play in Venice along with stops at the Telluride, Toronto and New York Film Festivals before it arrives in theaters on November 23. The film tells the story of Dr. Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) as he's seduced by the challenge of an impossible case, taking on the unbalanced yet beautiful Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) as his patient. Jung's weapon is the method of his master, the renowned Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen), but the story takes a turn as both men fall under Sabina's spell.
Not a single one of Cronenberg's films has ever been nominated for Best Picture, though he has directed some Oscar nominated performances. Are we looking at a film with a chance for Cronenberg to finally see one of his titles among the nominated Best Pictures. Check out the trailer below and see what you think. I skimmed it briefly and from what I can tell it is a slightly toned down version of the international trailer with less sexual imagery.

Basically an identical trailer to the international one. Still looks fantastic though.
Love Cronenberg work and espeically his work with Viggio Mortensen both has done great films together. I hope they continue to make great films together. Cronenberg is one of the most underrated directors ever. I hope he gets a chance at the Oscar this year. The film looks great, can't wait!
It looks great, but I doubt it'll get a best picture nod.
The Academy doesn't like Cronenberg. Individual acting nods or screenplay seem more likely.
Looks awesome. Interesting how Cronenberg's films have changed over the years…who would've thought he would be directing something like this back when The Fly remake came out?
Actually I have always wondered when was Cronenberg going to do a psychoanalysis film? Psychoanalytic themes have played a very important part in most of his films
This looks great and I'm really looking forward to it, but I doubt that it'll be a Best Picture contender simply due to the sexual themes. I agree that acting recognition seems more likely.
This will be nominated. With Ides of March not doing well, that would leave us with, without this one: Carnage, Extremely Loud, Dragon Tattoo, J. Edgar, and War Horse.
So THIS is how Davis Cronenberg does prono. ;)
HUGE fan of Viggo Mortinson, and Michael Fassbender blew me away in "X-Men: First Class". I may have to see this film. It certanly looks INTERSTING. A little darker than I normally like, but with the cast, and the period setting, this may impress me.
