After plenty of promotion and forewarning, Marvel and Disney have released the first Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Marvel/Disney; 4/4) trailer this morning and it can be viewed directly below.

Chris Evans returns to the role of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, after last year's success with The Avengers and we find the hero living quietly in Washington, D.C., trying to adjust to the modern world. However, he's called back into action when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack.

Joining forces with the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Cap struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy -- the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

I can only assume anyone that shows up to watch Thor: The Dark World in theaters on November 8 will get a glimpse of this on the big screen, but you can get a look right now directly below.

Captain America 2 hits theaters on April 4, 2014 and for more from the film, including posters and pictures, click here.

    This doesn't look half bad

More enjoyable than the whole of the first movie but it's still likely to be just a rental. Nice to see the inclusion of Redford though, not like him to do a film like this.

I'm looking forward to seeing him in a blockbuster as well. Almost positive he'll turn out to be a bad guy.

That's a pretty good shout, we'll have to wait and see if you're right.

Looks like a great edition to the Marvel canon. Super stoked.

  • Jimmy B

Seems to be going for a much darker tone than usual. I like!

  • Winchester

    Looks fine.

  • Corbin

    This looks quite fine.

Looks good to me. I like the Marvel movies in general so I'll definitely see this one.

Glad this was shot in Anamorphic... Why Joss didn't shoot Avengers in the same aspect ratio as the other films- I still can't figure that out. Annoys me...

Marvel's been doing a pretty spectacular job of raising the stakes and making the scale of each film feel bigger. THOR: THE DARK WORLD and now CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER... IRON MAN 3 didn't feel much bigger or better than the first IRON MAN to me in terms of... anything, really, but it was a fun flick nonetheless... Just from watching these trailers, you can see what a cohesive film experience Marvel's trying to create and I can't wait to see them get even weirder with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and DOCTOR STRANGE...

Aye, aye Captain America. Looks like i'll be seeing your new movie in theaters opening day and I for one, am glad Anthony Mackie is getting big roles again. Hopefully after this, he'll finally get a shot at a leading role? I enjoyed the first btw.

Certainly living up to higher expections, they are doing a great job with the whole "Captain America is in a different world" we've got Black Widow, The Falcon, and The Winter Soldier...should be pretty awesome. I enjoyed the first film but this looks excellent. Wish it was coming out sooner.

Actually this looks really entertaining and fun! I'm surprised! I liked the first one but nothing more.

In the Avengers, most of the time this character seemed a bit too stiff and antiquated or using a term of his time a 'square'. However, there were moments where Captain America had that edge to him where he was cool but had the 50's era 'right from wrong' mentality. From the few clips here, it seems like he has that same feel. Didn't watch the first one yet but by the comments on here the winter soldier seems to have a darker feel than the first.

Captain America is still my favorite of all the Marvel movies and this trailer did not disappoint.

Didn't an Iron Man 3 trailer begin just like this?

  • Ryguy815

I liked the first one and this one looks even better. Can't wait.

  • Xarnis

I find it hard for myself to get excited for superhero movies anymore, but that trailer was quite well-done. This film could be pretty fun.

  • schof1212

This looks good. Although, not sure about all that eyeliner on Sebastian Stan's winter soldier character in the still above.

  • TheLastEquivocationofBrist

Eh I thought it looked like "Action Movie Trailer #43838." Didn't make much impression either way, besides being intrigued to see Robert Redford.

  • SeenSome

Until the generic explodey bit near the end, this one looks pretty impressive. The Winter Soldier character looks cool and the tone feels more like an espionage thriller than the usual superhero flick.

Great trailer. Much better trailer than Thor: The Dark World's trailers.

This person wondered if it's going to tie in with the TV show -
