Watch a New Trailer for the 'Evil Dead' Remake

A new look at the CGI-free horror

After the bloody red band trailer premiered for the new Evil Dead remake a lot of the news was dedicated to a quote from director Fede Alvarez claiming "[t]here's no CGI in the movie." Of course, in this day and age that's quite hard to believe (just go watch this weekend's new CG-loaded horror, Mama). Even more so when you look at the image above, which you would almost assume was enhanced with CGI rather than go the old fashioned route of makeup alone.

As far as just how gory the film will get with these practical effects, here's the full quote from the io9 interview, but do know it does contain some spoilers:

"We didn't do any CGI in the movie. There's no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There's a reason people use CGI it's cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone's arm disappear.

There's a moment where a girl goes through her arm with a kitchen knife — spoiler alert. And we knew since day one the camera would start wide, she goes for the knife, you see her arm, she starts going for it. And you think they're going to cut away at any moment, but we don't. She just goes for it and screams and the arm breaks and falls. So we really pushed the boundaries there, trying to create those illusions... It has a particularly bloody ending. The last scene is just...I want it to be the bloodiest scene, ever. And I think it is."

Watch the new trailer directly below and look for Evil Dead in theaters on April 12.

I honestly can't wait for this. There's a good chance the story will have little substance going for it, but aesthetically this just looks so badass.

Im from Uruguay as Alvarez is, and Im really courios about this. I cant belive this will be his first feature film and I hope he can deliver with this reamake. At least it has Raimi's blessing and that is a great sign.

Wow this actually does look quite awesome!! I'm sure it won't actually scare since nothing really does anymore, but that's not what I'm looking forward too. I heard Bruce Campbell is also helping with this. I'm shocked it looks amazing n no cgi. Really looking forward to this and Carrie later this yr. Hopefully tho both turn out well.

That doesn't look like a horror comedy at all. I'm suddenly a lot more interested in this movie.

Gosh...Anticipation rising. The Evil Dead is my all time favorite horror movie so I'm very pleased with what this is turning into.

Am I the only person who thinks that this movie looks terrible?

    • PJBroon

No. Although this seems aesthetically pleasing, I am just not interested in this movie. I loved the original Evil Dead, and liked the second one even better. This movie has none of the rough-and-ready charm, the accidental comedy, or the shoddy camera-work that got the original its cult following in the first place. A real shame, in my opinion.

        You've seen it?

Looks like your average run of the mill modern horror movie to me. Plenty of style.

      Didn't laugh once either!

This looks phenomenal in every way. So freaking excited! In need of some brutal, CGI-free horror this year.

I liked the first part of this movies much, but after watching trailer of evil dead 4 i don't think its much good like the first one.
