Warner Bros. Sets Goldsman's 'Winter's Tale' for Valentine's 2014 Release

An Oscar contender no more

wbEarly in the year I thought writer/director Akiva Goldsman's Winter's Tale starring Colin Farrell and Russell Crowe may have a shot at being an Oscar contender, but the lack of news surrounding the adaptation of Mark Helprin's novel pretty much ended all of that. Now Deadline reports Warner Bros. has set a February 14, 2014 release for the pic, which ends that Oscar chatter altogether.

The film is a fantasy story set in 19th Century and present-day Manhattan and revolves around a thief (Farrell), a dying girl ("Downton Abbey" star Jessica Brown Findlay) and a flying white horse. Jennifer Connelly, William Hurt and Eva Marie Saint co-star.

My older brother's an extra in this one along with Wolf of Wall Street, I was hoping for more Oscar bait but at least it's not a January movie?

There's something about the synopsis of the film interests me and the cast is fine, but I've long since felt Goldsman is a screenwriter whom I just don't really like a lot. Although he also did some TV work on 'Fringe' which worked fine on that show he's mostly a features writer and I'm not much of a fan.
