  1. - I feel like I'm the only one not remotely excited for Alice In Wonderland.
    - Secretariat sounds like a Best Actress vehicle in the making.
    - Looks like it will be another solid year for animation
    - Tron Legacy looks like an FX and sound contender based on that clip you guys posted a while back.

Just what we needed. Another Step-Up… in 3-D.

  3. The Jackal

Well, as usual, Disney has a Pixar film, a bunch of potential blockbusters & some lackluster family fare on its slate for 2010

Alice in Wonderland looks very bizarre indeed; however, given that the likes of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter & Anne Hathaway are on board, I guess I am too. I just hope the performances by said actors can keep up with all of the psychedelic visuals.

The film I'm most excited about (despite my love for the Xbox 360 Game: The Prince of Persia) is Tron Legacy. This film looks just brilliant. Jeff Bridges returns to his sci-fi roots in a world of epic visuals and what looks to be a very interesting story. Again, my one fear is that the performances by some of the actors (excluding Mr. Bridges) wont be able to live up to the intense and spectacular visuals.

Secretariat and Rapunzel look like Oscar bait for the 2011 Oscar telecast, the former for Best Actress and the latter for Best Animated Feature.

With another Pixar film coming out (which of course, will be great: they're batting 1.000 people), plus the "maybe" blockbuster that is Prince of Persia, 2010 looks to be a good year for The House of Mouse.

  4. EnglishGavz

Wait, isn't that Miley Cyrus film the EXACT SAME PLOT as the Hannah Montana Movie?

  5. mfan

I just saw the new trailer today for Alice In Wonderland. Before I thought it looked good, but the new trailer makes it look truly Awesome.

@EnglishGavz: I'm happy you saw Hannah Montana: The Movie and so know the plot. As for the last song:

Before anyone gives estimates for The Last Song with Miley Cyrus, they
should consider that Miley has always been successful, for example…
In the THREE year time period of September '06 to November '09, she has

    > Released SIX CD's that have gone platinum (many, multiplatinum)

    > Made THREE live action movies that ALL opened or will open at #1

    > Had THREE successful ARENA tours (one opening act, two headlining)

    > Done MANY successful sideline concerts, projects, and charitable acts
including voice work (e.g. Bolt), a successful YouTube show,
publishing a best seller, having a successful clothing line, and
participating in awards shows as a nominee, performer, presenter,
and/or winner! Not to mention stellar iTune sales (2 of top 10
    singles for 2009)

All while working full time on her television show, being homeschooled,
and going to church on Sundays! Remember this is in a three year time
period! You cannot stop this girl! Anyone who comes in with an
estimate below $45 million is going to feel like they got run over by
    a Mack Truck!

Estimated Worldwide total for The Last Song: $260-$325 million
    Production Budget $35? million
Sales of DVD's of her last movie: $50 million and counting

  6. Garrett

@mfan: You can't be serious. If all of those facts really came into consideration when considering box-office success, a unique plot and critical acclaim, Beyonce would have an Oscar by now.

  7. mfan

@Garrett: I'm saying No project of Miley's has failed so far. Her popularity is still building. This movie will make significantly more money than Hannah Montana, and if she puts out "Wings" after that, it will significantly outperform The Last Song. Regardless of whether her movies have a unique plot or critical acclaim, people will support her. Luckily, she always tries to put out a better and better product.

  8. mfan

Mentioning Beyonce is on target. She is Miley's biggest crossover to movies competition. Beyonce's next movie will be huge for her movie career whether it's a hit or a career ending flop, or something in the middle.

  9. Garrett

So what you're saying is that even if her movies suck like garbage, people will still support her. That's definitely true, but it doesn't hold well for those of us who could care less about her and just wanted to see a good movie.

  10. mfan

Yes, that's true, but none of her stuff "sucks like garbage". Why do you think she has so many fans? Let me get out my crystal ball. When Laurence Olivier started in movies, many critics said he sucked like garbage and was only in movies for his pretty face. But, like Miley, he was smart and continued to work on his acting. When he died he was considered one of our finest actors. Don't worry. Miley is already good and will just get better and better.

  11. Garrett

@mfan: Actually, aside from small children and the target audience of teenage girls who haven't yet hit their development stage, her fan-base is very small. And considering she's only stared in two movies so far, she hasn't even built up a film career that we can call terrible yet. The "sucks like garbage" comment was hypothetical and pointed towards her future film roles. Also, your comparison of Cyrus and Olivier is beyond laughable that I can't even snark at it. It's also obvious that you know very little about Laurence Olivier.

  12. Carson Dyle

…let's not make any Olivier/Cyrus comparisons. Please.

  13. EnglishGavz

@mfan I wasn't attacking Miley, please don't jump down my throat just because you like her. I wasn't attacking anyone really, accept maybe the big suited guys who can't be bothered to give fans anything more original than "Send her to Southern town, make her sing songs." It kind of insults the fans, with the powers that be assuming fans willl pay for whatever providing she is in it.

Also I don't mind the whole transition she's doing away from childish Hannah Montana to teenaged Miley Cyrus. I liked her at the Royal Variety Show. However, bad unoriginal films take away from this possible trasition.

Also, in 2008 Tyler Perry has been in 3 films, which have been box office number 1's for 4 weeks over the year (I'm counting Star Trek) and has been producing and occasionally acting in TV shows. This is on top of charitable work and book and play writing. So if we feel like making comparasins, how about we see how much a better career Perry has over Cyrus.

People have already had this argument I know, but I'm in England and was asleep while it hapened so I felt I'd provide my defence to MFan.

  14. mfan

@EnglishGavz: You are right that I did get defensive about The Last Song. Sorry. Her fans that I know are really exited about it.
I used to read a lot of film criticism. It was once a common practice to compare different actors in the same or similar roles. A brutally honest process. When Olivier first started out, the critics were not kind.

  15. mfan

Disney is going to keep releasing these Step Up movies because they continue to bank. Though the sequel made slightly less in the U.S., it made significantly more worldwide. Bonus: A lot of these dancers are Miley's friends and friends of her dancers. Did anyone see her dance challenge youtube videos?

  16. ddurden33

man i want prince of persia to tank so bad, i just cant stand gyllenhall as prince, and that ridiculous corny banter between him and his brit gal pal in the trailer reminded me of transformers ROTF, this is def one to avoid come summer.

  17. Megan Dubai

That WHEN IN ROME movie looks so cute! Definitely gonna take the friends and check out the hot couple on screen.

  18. MGotler

Damn gotta say Disney looks to have a sick lineup for this year. Hope everything turns out as good as it looks. Feeling good about their chances since I saw When in Rome and loved it. After all those heavy movies of the winter I was in the mood for something more fun and this was perfect

  19. Jill Frank

Yeah I'll check it out, the cast looks really fun!

  20. Stacy Payne

Duhamel is my love! Will see this the day it comes out!

  21. Melissa Goodman

I can't wait to see this movie! Oooohhh man Josh Duhamel is one good looking man. Dax is fricken hilarious in the trailer!!!

  22. Nellykooooooo

THE LAST SONG it is a very very very good movie for me.
i love this film very much =)
