Up, Toy Story 3D and plenty more family fun
Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Annie Potts, John Morris, Erik von Detten, Laurie Metcalf, R. Lee Ermey
They’re toys, they talk—at least when people aren’t around—and they’re back…celebrating the return of the Toy Story franchise—in Disney Digital 3-D™ this time! TOY STORY, the film that started it all, takes moviegoers back to that fantastic fun-filled journey, viewed mostly through the eyes of two rival toys— Woody (voice of TOM HANKS), the lanky, likable cowboy, and Buzz Lightyear (voice of TIM ALLEN), the fearless space ranger. The comically-mismatched duo eventually learn to put aside their differences when circumstances separate them from their owner Andy and they find themselves on a hilarious adventurefilled mission where the only way they can survive is to form an uneasy alliance.
Disney•Pixar’s TOY STORY kicks off a Disney Digital 3-D™ Toy Story celebration, which includes Toy Story 2, opening Feb. 12, 2010, and culminates in a brand new adventure starring Buzz and Woody: Toy Story 3—in theaters June 18, 2010.
Starring: Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Bob Hoskins, Robin Wright Penn, Cary Elwes, Fionnula Flanagan
DISNEY’S A CHRISTMAS CAROL, a multi-sensory thrill ride re-envisioned by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, captures the fantastical essence of the classic Dickens tale in a groundbreaking 3-D motion picture event.
Ebenezer Scrooge (JIM CARREY) begins the Christmas holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (GARY OLDMAN) and his cheery nephew (COLIN FIRTH). But when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it’s too late.
Starring: John Travolta, Robin Williams, Kelly Preston, Seth Green, Ella Bleu Travolta, Lori Loughlin and Matt Dillon
Two best friends—one unlucky-in-love divorcee (ROBIN WILLIAMS) and the other a fun-loving bachelor (JOHN TRAVOLTA)—have their lives turned upside down when they’re unexpectedly charged with the care of six-year-old twins while on the verge of the biggest business deal of their lives. The not-so-kidsavvy bachelors stumble in their efforts to take care of the twins (newcomers ELLA BLEU TRAVOLTA and CONNER RAYBURN), leading to one debacle after another, and perhaps to a new-found understanding of what’s really important in life.
Starring: Anika Noni Rose, John Goodman, Keith David, Jim Cummings, Jenifer Lewis
Walt Disney Animation Studios presents the musical THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, an animated comedy set in the great city of New Orleans. From the creators of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin comes a modern twist on a classic tale, featuring a beautiful girl named Tiana (ANIKA NONI ROSE), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana.
THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG marks the return to hand-drawn animation from the revered team of John Musker and Ron Clements, with music by Oscar®-winning composer Randy Newman (Monsters, Inc., Cars, Toy Story).

Only "Up" and "Toy Story 3-D" looks like they can be contenders. And that's mostly because of Pixar's long streak of successful films.
Here's a list of every movies made by Pixar.
Toy Story
A Bug's Life
Toy Story 2
Monsters Inc.
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Cars
Ratatouille
Wall-E
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE MOVIES WERE NOMINATED FOR AN ACADEMY AWARD, EXCEPT FOR WALL-E AND THAT'S ONLY BECAUSE THIS YEAR'S ACADEMY AWARDS HASN'T STARTED YET.
The cast for Old Dogs looks very intriguing. Race to Witch Mountain won't be great, but might be enjoyable and not a total waste of time. And I can't wait for Princess and the Frog, it looks beautiful and I'm really excited to see Disney return to its roots.
And Jerzey, lay off the caps lock and do a bit more research. Pixar's films have been nominated for their music more than anything else; I'm about as big a Pixar fangirl as they come, but don't be misleading.
Oh, and Confessions of a Shopaholic is going to bomb hard. The studio knows no one wants to see that kind of movie in this economy, so I imagine they're just going to quietly try to forget about it.
up & princess frog look cute. & YAY gary oldman in another movie!
@aerinpegadrak:
UMMM….I think you are the one that should do more research.
Pixar has been nominated for the following:
Best Animated Feature x5
Best Original Score x5
Best Original Screenplay x4
Best Original Song x4
Best Sound Editing x3
Best Sound Mixing x2
and a very rare Special Achievement Award, the last award given out of it's kind.
"earth" looks intriguing…
@Jerzey Jon: 9 for music and 5 more for sound of 23 total nominations. My point still stands. The fact that Toy Story is the most recent Special Achievement recipient doesn't mean it's the last ever. I'm not saying that Pixar's films aren't successful or extremely high quality (there's a reason I wanted to write for them, after all) but on the whole, they tend to get snubbed by the Academy. I wouldn't be all that surprised to see Kung Fu Panda take Best Animated Feature, though I would be annoyed. It's almost like the Academy refuses to believe that a studio can release films that are all high-quality, without a single dud in the bunch. The Oscars have always been rather elitist, and top honors usually go to small dramas rather than big box office hits.
I'd love to see WALL-E get nominated for Best Picture, but I'm not going to put money on it or anything.
1. I didn't say "Toy Story" is the last ever recipient of the Special Achievement award
2. You wouldn't be surprised If "Kung Fu Panda" takes the academy award for Best Animated Feature over "Wall-E"?!
Great post! I'm so excited for Up! Until Pixar makes a bad movie, I will continue to trust them wholeheartedly. Also, I love that Disney continues to invest in The Rock- he's just a likable guy. And I'm very excited for The Princess and the Frog- I'm ready for the return of traditionally animated princess movie!
By the way, I think your content is really organized superbly. I linked over to this post from my own blog, The Box Office Junkie. (http://theboxofficejunkie.com)
@aerinpegadrak: There is no way Kung Fu Panda will win the Oscar over "WALL-E", "Bolt" or "Waltz with Bashir". It's also quite ridiculous to say that Pixar gets snubbed by the Academy. Since it's addition, Pixar has won Best Animated Film 3/7 times, been nominated 5/7 times and has received countless more nominations in other categories. Pixar is also the most respected when it comes to animation.
I didn't think there was any way Happy Feet could have won over Cars, but there we go. Kung Fu Panda wasn't nearly as good as WALL-E, but it was still quite good. It wouldn't surprise me if Academy voters snub WALL-E for Best Animated Feature in favor of a Best Picture nomination that it won't get. Pixar's "countless" nominations in other categories are, as I've said, mostly for sound and music. I'm just rather pessimistic when it comes to the Oscars actually honoring deserving films (No Country for Old Men was probably one of my least favorite films of last year, for instance).
@aerinpegadrak: That's because Happy Feet was better than Cars. Credit goes where credit is due. However, because Kung Fu Panda is nowhere near the level of WALL-E, it won't pull an upset. Also, the whole point of creating the Best Animated Film category was so that animated films could compete and win in their own arena when voters didn't recognize it in the Best Picture category. And since when are nominations for Sound, Music, (you missed it's screenplay nominations, which no other animation group seems to get) and Original Song not something to be proud of? Do you see Disney or any other animation department scoring nominations in those categories? I don't think so.
u forgot about The Movie Bolt
I am so excited about Confessions of a Shopaholic. I loved Isla in Wedding Crashers and after seeing the trailer, I know she is going to be outrageously funny and charming in this movie. She is the perfect lead and I have loved all the books, so seeing this story on the big screen will be awesome! I have loved all the trailers and images I have seen so far!
