A 'Wall Street' Sequel?!?!?
Are they bringing back Gordon Gekko???
Okay, now this is some interesting news that just surfaced out of Variety. 20th Century Fox is apparently launching development of a sequel to Oliver Stone's 1987 drama Wall Street as a potential starring vehicle for Michael Douglas!! Yeah, I think that deserves the double exclamation.
Wall Street is definitely my favorite Oliver Stone film and Douglas was fantastic as Gordon Gekko. Unfortunately there is no word on storyline although they do say Stephen Schiff will be penning the script. Schiff was credited on Clint Eastwood's True Crime back in 1999 and IMDb has him credited on George Clooney's in production flick Leatherheads. As for features he wrote himself, he adapted both The Deep End of the Ocean and Lolita.
Variety simply says that the film will be titled Money Never Sleeps and will be an updated version of a look into the underside of the financial world.
Where they could go with the film is beyond me, especially with Gekko in the film and make it seem like a logical next step. However, if they can get it to work and make it a serious drama in the same fashion as the first we may have a gem on our hands.
