Walker Tapped to Raise Eastwood's 'Flag'
WWII flick will feature young buck.
Paul Walker is now set to star in Clint Eastwood's World War II feature Flags of Our Fathers, a film based on James Bradley's book "Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima" and penned by Million Dollar Baby and Crash scribe Paul Haggis.
The Battle of Iwa Jima took place in the winter of 1945 and in one month, 22,000 Japanese and 26,000 Americans died, and the battle produced one of the most enduring images of WWII: a photograph of U.S. servicemen raising an American flag on the flank of Mount Suribachi, the island's commanding high point.
In the film Walker will play Hank Hansen, a seasoned soldier and one of the four flag raisers. He joins already cast actors Ryan Phillippe, Adam Beach and Jesse Bradford.
