Timothy Hutton will star in and produce the indie Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. The film is a Western set in Serbia and will be directed by John R. Pepper and begin shootin in September in Belgrade. [Variety]
John Goodman has joined the cast of DreamWorks' animated picture Bee Movie. Goodman will voice the role of Montgomery, a Southern lawyer, in the toon about a bee who decides to sue humans because they eat honey. [Variety]

P.J. Hogan will direct Chasing Vermeer for Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is an adaptation of Blue Balliett's best-selling children's book, a mystery adventure that revolves around a boy and girl who attend the University of Chicago's Laboratory Schools, a school for the gifted. The two sixth graders team to solve the theft of a painting by 17th century painter Johannes Vermeer. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Johnny Depp's production company has set Terry Zwigoff to direct and co-write an adaptation of the French novel Happy Days with co-writer Jerry Stahl. The story is of a thirtysomething man who decides to leave his wife and children and check himself into a rest home. [The Hollywood Reporter]
