Usher is 'Dying for Dolly' and then Some…
Singer looks to dramatic role for the Gate.
Usher Raymond, better known simply as Usher, is continuing his trend as he looks to break into acting after his highly successful singing career with yet another film role, this time for Lions Gate Films in a movie titled Dying for Dolly.
The film will be directed by Ron Underwood and finds Usher as the loyal right-hand man to a Mafia don. He's been assigned to watch over the don's daughter, but the dad doesn't know the bodyguard and the girl have long nursed a mutual crush.
Usher finds himself in good company with Emmanuelle Chriqui signed as the female lead and Chazz Palmintieri also starring in the film, which is set to begin lensing December 12.
Usher is also tapped to star in an urban Saturday Night Fever titled Step in the Name of Love, a film set in the world of steppin', a flashy kind of dance reminiscent of swing dancing.
The script is currently undergoing a rewrite and will be distributed by MGM.
