Universal Acquires 'Freak'
Children's series heads to the U.
Universal Pictures is upping their children's wing as they have acquired the rights to the bestselling children's series "Cirque du Freak" by Darren Shan.
The screen adaptation will be written by Brian Helgeland, helmer of The Order and A Knight's Tale, as the series revolves around a youth named Darren Shan who attends an illegal freak show. By the end, he has agreed to serve as a vampire's assistant to save his best friend's life.
Lauren Shuler Donner will produce.
