Nikki Finke at Deadline has posted a bit of a whopper when it comes to release date shuffling as Universal Pictures has juggled three of their upcoming features around the release schedule while setting release dates for a few others.
First off, the Matt Damon and Emily Blunt thriller The Adjustment Bureau has been ushered out of its July 30 summer release slot and will now hit theaters on September 17, typically a dead month for movies. However this year September holds Anton Corbijn's The American starring George Clooney, Ben Affleck's The Town, The Adjustment Bureau, Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Kevin Macdonald's Eagle of the Ninth and Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. I don't know, a strong line-up if you ask me, and I even left a few off. Get the full September schedule here.
Also releasing on September 17 will be Rogue's Catfish, a film that stormed the Sundance Film Festival this year.
Taking the place of The Adjustment Bureau on July 30 will be Burr Steers's supernatural romance Charlie St. Cloud starring Zac Efron and Amanda Crew telling the story of a caretaker at a cemetery who manages to have weekly meetings with a younger brother whose accidental death he feels was his fault.
Perhaps the biggest shock for me is the decision to bump David Gordon Green's medieval comedy Your Highness from October 1 all the way to April 8, 2011. I had the film starring James Franco, Danny R. McBride, Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel and Justin Theroux as part of my Oscar tracking "The Contenders" section, but I guess I'll have to bump it to next year now.
Ron Howard's Cheaters will release on January 14. Jennifer Connelly just joined the cast, starring alongside Vince Vaughn, Kevin James and Winona Ryder in the story of two best friends and business partners (Vaughn and James), one of which is tortured when he observes his pal's wife (Ryder) getting intimate with another man in a restaurant and wonders if he should he tell.
Also, the M. Night Shyamalan written and produced supernatural thriller The Night Chronicles: Devil has been set for a February 11 release. The film is directed by Quarantine brotherly duo John and Drew Dowdle and stars Chris Messina, Bokeem Woodbine, Geoffrey Arend, Caroline Dhavernas and Bojana Novakovic in a horror set inside of an office building elevator.
The James Cameron produced 3D feature Sanctum is now set for a March 4, 2011 release. The actioner stars Richard Roxburgh, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhys Wakefield, Alice Parkinson and Dan Wyllie and follows a team of underwater cave divers on a treacherous expedition to the largest, most beautiful and least accessible cave system on Earth.
Finally, a film titled Ballers, of which I currently have no information on, is set for November 4, 2011. If anyone knows what this is please let me know.

Are they trying to make September a box-office season? I've been impressed by January 2009 and March 2010, maybe they can pull it off.
Damn, The Adjustment Bureau was one of my most anticipated movies of the summer. From what I've seen, it looks pretty cool. Are they trying to earn it Oscar points by putting it in September. If so, then I guess I understand, but I'm still not happy about it.
Too bad for Your Highness as well.
Brad, I guess this means 'Your Highness' is not thought to be Oscar material, and they hope for decent BO instead – same situation as Shutter Island, it seems. Is that your guess?
September is looking just fine at the moment…
Oh well for The Adjustment Bureau. I still sounds good, but it isnt that far bumped up. Its only bumped up from July 30 to September 17, thats only like 49 days from July 30. I think it might now have the biggest opening of September in the history of box office. But Your Highness sounded really funny and i wanted to see it. But April 8th, too long for me. Almost a year
My guess on the move for "The Adjustment Bureau" is that they already had a heady, summer-oriented fuel ride for July in the form of "Inception" and didn't want any competition. Moving it to two months later assures none. September is when Oscar material starts to trickle in after Toronto, so it's a good bet for high-profile thrillers like "The Adjustment Bureau" to be noticed. Though it is strange they didn't just move it to October, which is a MAJOR month for Oscar fare.
dang it i was looking foward to your highness now i have to wait a whole year
if i remember correctly i saw a small thing saying dave chappelle was connected to something called ballers at one point
@Brad Brevet: I realize this is completely unrelated, but I'm just dying to found out any snippets of information about this.
As of Tuesday, Kick-Ass had accumulated $65 million at the worldwide box office. Considering that the film cost $50 million to market and make (budget was around $30 million), do you think we'll see a sequel for this phenomenal film?
It is my personal belief that with the film finishing its box office run somwhere in the $75-80 million range + another $10-15 million in BD/DVD sales, the makers of this film will have netted a nice little profit.
IS A SEQUEL GOING TO BE MADE?!?!?!?!?!
Why did they push 'Charlie St.Cloud' up to July? Does that mean they thought it could be an Oscar contender and now realized it's not?
Also, I saw an advanced screening of 'Catfish' and loved it! DEFINITELY worth seeing.
