Berry's 2010 Oscar flick

Over the weekend I received the poster for Halle Berry's Frankie and Alice and was also made aware of two clips from the film, which Freestyle Releasing is pushing to earn Berry an Oscar nomination this season.

The film is set for a limited release in New York and Los Angeles on December 17 before expanding wide on February 4 and tells the story of a young woman struggling with multiple personality disorder (Berry) who's torn between who she is and a racist Caucasian alter-personality that preys upon her mind. Essentially, it sounds like Oscar bait from the director of White Noise and co-starring Stellan Skarsgard, Chandra Wilson and Phylicia Rashad.

Personally, I think the Best Actress category is too stacked for Berry to make a dent with a last minute feature, but have a look at the clips and see what you think.

From the clips here, she looks like she will most likely have a great performance, but Portman will no doubt in my mind come home with the oscar and Bening and Moore will get many votes also. So when this is all said and done, Berry's performance will most likely be overshadowed and forgotten in the years to come unless her performance is much better than we all expect. Also, the poster looks kinda plain and boring. But thats just judging a book by its cover, so will have to wait and see how the final product is before we can judge.

every review of about the movie has nothing but high praise for her, the editor from Entertainment Weekly has been pushing for her as well. i think it's funny how some years it's all about the best actor race, but this year there seems to be an abundance of great female role, which is great..

Berry looks good, but hard to tell from these clips. there's always perfs that are overlooked in any given year. this year though looks to be unusually competitive in the Actress race. we'll see in about two weeks when the first of the Critics' awards come out…

Halle Belle delivers great performances whenever she gets out of "Halle Belle" mode. When she loses herself in a role, we get Monster's Ball or Their Eyes Were Watching God; otherwise we are left with uninspiring performances. Were it not for a couple of outstanding performances, I wouldn't even like Halle Berry as an actress.

This looks like another role that she has lost herself in. I can't wait.

    Thems the facts

Interesting premise but you get no sense of that from these two clips. The design and lighting look good, but this film comes from Geoffery Saxx, whose WHITE NOISE and STORMBREAKER were awful films that were poorly directed.
