Red Band Trailer for Danny Boyle's 'Trance'

Eh, not a big fan of starting off with a red band trailer

Whenever I'm anticipating a movie, the last thing I want to see is them kicking off their marketing push with a red band trailer. Hell, I don't want to see the movies I'm anticipating ever having to resort to red band trailers, because that typically tells me one of two things: 1.) they're having a hard time figuring out how to appeal to audiences, or 2.) the movie stinks and the only way they believe they can convince audiences to go see it is to show them violence or cursing. With no data to back this claim up, I typically assume the latter. However, Trance is directed by Danny Boyle and it's got a solid cast including James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson. It can't be all that bad can it?

In the film, McAvoy plays Simon, an assistant at an auction house who masterminds an art heist and teams up with a gang of thieves, but suffers a blow to the head and wakes up with amnesia. Simon is the only one who knows where the painting's location is and after his continued failure to remember, the gang begins to suspect duplicity on his part and hires a female hypnotist to get into his brain.

Trance hits UK theaters on March 27 and domestic theaters on April 5. Check out the red band trailer directly below.

The anticipation...Rises. No seriously. This looks CRAZY good. I'm iffy with Boyle. I love his less lauded films and don't love his acclaimed ones. Casel half head has my ticket bought...

  • JN Films

Yeah the picture is quite grotesque

    • Yaz

      A bit spoilerish too... Sigh.

  • Mr.Jim

Danny Boyle, James Mrcoy, and a logical reason to have someone with half a head count me in

  • Torryz

    This looks good!

  • Kyle

    BRAD!!!

I've stuck with your rule of not watching trailers and then you post a header photo like THAT?! For shame...

    • http://shloggshorrorblog.blogspot.com/ Shloggs

I thought Brad was being hypocritical by posting what seemed to be an extremely spoilery shot of Cassell with his head blown off. Turns out it doesn't indicate anything other than this is one of those movies where crazy stuff happens all the time, then you're snapped back into realizing that it actually didn't. Man I hate movies like that.

But unless Brad watched the trailer, how did he know that screen grab didn't spoil Cassell's death?

Yeah, I'm curious about that myself.

Removing the caption below the photo would help and be much less spoilerish. Maybe it is a film that is full of 'crazy stuff', but it doesn't change the fact that it's still a bit spoilerish for those who don't want to know things about the film, like the fact that at some point Vincent Casell's character gets half his face blown off.

I think it looks fantastic, and the talent involves seems to suggest it will be. I'll definitely be checking it out. Great trailer too.

Drive had a red-band trailer. Sometimes it's just marketing, and has nothing to do with the quality of the film.

And Drive's trailers clearly had a hard time selling the audience on the film since they essentially gave away the entire plot and sold it as a fast-paced actioner rather than the film it was.
