Trailer for 'The Wolfman' Claws Its Way Online
Will the remake live up to the original?
Universal's trailer for The Wolfman is debuting on a rather big day in blockbuster movie world as it has arrived at Yahoo! a mere hour after Fox debuted the trailer for Avatar. How does it stack up?
The Wolfman is a remake of the classic (and a personal favorite) 1941 original in which Lawrence Talbot is bitten by a werewolf and survives to carry the curse. In this remake directed by Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III), Benicio Del Toro stars as Talbot with Anthony Hopkins playing his father, Hugo Weaving playing Scotland Yard inspector Aberline and Emily Blunt playing Gwen Conliffe. The Wolfman has bounced around the release calendar and has finally landed at February 12, 2010, a date that appears will stick.

Exciting! The F/X for the transformation from wolf to man look extraordinary! Can't wait for the movie!
More impressed with this trailer than the Avatar trailer.
I wholeheartedly agree with Angel, this is something I actually look forward too.
Looks like fun. The sets and costumes look great. Looks like a good ol fashioned monster movie, which is what they were probably going for.
@Angel: Agree with you.
I've been waiting for this for awhile and it does not disappoint. This is terrific.
This trailer looks AWESOME. what an amazing cast! cant wait
ya between the 2 this looks far and away more interesting than avatar. Hugo Weaving! Just hope Tel Toro doesn't show up with a scottish accent somewhere in there. Didn't sound like it.
Pretty excited for this. At least there is something to look forward to in the theaters between January and May.
They should have kept this in November. This would have been the perfect movie to see right after Halloween. The trailer has renewed my interest in the movie, but I can't help feeling that people aren't going to want to see a werewolf movie in February.
@Angel: Ditto, Angel. Now THIS is worth looking forward to; though it does have a slight Zorro feel to it minus Catherine Zeta Jones.
Wow! Love the Victorian setting, love the special effects; now I'm excited. This looks like its going to be a great film – reminds a lot of Francis Ford Coppolla's remake of Dracula, albeit with better special effects. But it looks like it'll give the original a run for its money. Let's hope the film can live up to the spectacular trailer.
With The Wolfman & Avatar, it's shaping up to be a memorable holiday season. At least we'll have one quality werewolf film this year (take that Twilight & Underworld).
Del Toro looks…a bit flat. Unfortunately, given my love for Lon Chaney's original performance, its a role that I'll judge quite harshly. That said, Weaving looks tremendous, as do the sets, and the Wolfman transition looks extraordinary.
The trailer for this movie had a far bigger impact on me than AVATAR's trailer.
It's funny how things work.
this does look a lot better than avatar but do we really have to wait till feburary
wow, we have only seen 2 min clips of both movies, and already the comparisons ? to say that wolfman is going to be better than avatar is a bit of a stretch, i think. but then again to each his own.
@ddurden33: Most people here are saying, as I did, that this creates more interest than Avatar, that it looks exciting. In fact, I think only one person said anything more.
This will for sure be a blockbuster. Just like avatar
Looks much more interesting (and exciting) than the highly-touted Avatar teaser trailer. I'm really digging the PRACTICAL transformation sequences, maybe Joe Johnson realized that CGI wasn't necessarily better and did those reshoots earlier this year to incorporate the more practical effects.
Awesome. I think 90% of the ppl who go to see this wont have seen the original. So no point in comparisions in my humble opinion.
@Patricia: i still think there is more to avatar that what we saw in the trailer, also that 2 min clip was very exciting, people who were not impressed probably had unrealistic high expectations, i was present at the comic con where cameron previewed the movie, and i don't think the trailer is anything less of what he claims it to be. also the concept and storyline is a lot more inventive and unique, its along the lines of the popular video game halo, which i am sure if made into a movie, would create much more hype than avatar. whereas wolfman movies are dime a dozen, this one looks like the cream of the crop, but really its a wolfman movie, nothing we haven't already seen.
BRILLIANT!!
Even as an avid hater of CGI – which the transformation looks like… yeah I love American Werewolf… but still yeah it looks great!
Can I just say that Benicio Del Toro is one of the most under-rated actors out there… you watch Sin City then watch Usual Suspects.. then watch Che Part Two… his acting is tremendous!! He needs some more respect for what he's given to the world of cinema!! I think he's awesome!
To me the CGI wolf looks completely fake and awful.
Van Helsing, anyone?
