Disney has debuted the trailer for their upcoming fantasy The Sorcerer's Apprentice at Apple. The film stars Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer, Monica Bellucci and Toby Kebbell and reunites Cage with his National Treasure helmer Jon Turteltaub.

The film takes its cues from the classic Goethe and Paul Dukas-inspired Mickey Mouse portion of "Fantasia," the live-action feature centers on a sorcerer and his hapless apprentice who are swept into the center of an ancient conflict between good and evil.

Balthazar Blake (Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Check out the trailer directly below or watch it in high definition at Apple.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is set to hit theaters on July 16, 2010. For more on the film click here.

I liked the trailer music but thats about it.

  3. Topy

    More in July. Birthday bash!!!!

  4. Hateburn

Looks like Disney spent a lot of money on something that just doesn't look like it'll be…good. Music was neat, but that's about it for this.

Uhhh… Ok. For the entire summer LITERALLY everywhere I turned in NYC this fucking movie was there, crashing cars thru store fronts (not on purpose in some cases, seriously) making it hard for me to get to work on the movie I was working on sometimes, EVEN taking over the armory in my neighborhood in Brooklyn.

I have nothing but ill will for this P.O.S. and to top it off that trailer was so bad every second that it played it killed a polar bear making the species now extinct.

    P.S.
Why does Cage have a beard on his head?

  6. i thought it looked kinda cool…

  7. John Debono

Will be too busy watching Inception to bother.

from the director of National Treasure, the film will be disappointing at best, but rake in plenty of dough at the box office. The National Treasure fans aren't too discriminating.

  9. Shawn

Will Mickey Mouse make a cameo?

  10. All this from walking broomsticks? They had a brief scene with them. Would've been cool if the villain was the devil on top of bald mountain. Wait, no it wouldn't.

@PocketsOtool, consider yourself lucky. I always get stuck when trying to get to work thanks to Law and Order Special Victims Unit. No car crashes, just the uncomfortable feeling that they will find a sexually abused dead girl in my neighborhood.

Obviously thin on plot. Way too much CGI and action sequences to be thought provoking. What's the difference between this movie and the Vampire's Apprentice? Seems like the same plot with a good Sorcerer fighting an evil one with teen apprentice in tow.

@John Debono: Got that right John. Something funny, in my country (Argentina) Inception will be named "The Origin", hahaha. I know that origin and inception are similar terms, but it sucks.

This trailer is terrible, great music, but movie looks awful.
I was hoping that Nic Cage would pick another good role after Bad Leuitenant, but I guess he needs the money at the moment so probably accepts all the roles.

Between this and Prince of Persia, Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney will have collaborated to bring us two of the probably the worst movies ever made all in the same summer! Congrats, Jerry and Disney.

  15. Shawn

I'm actually more at ease with Prince of Persia (not completely though) compared to this one, with it being in the more capable hands of Mike Newell

  16. John

    When hasn't Nic Cage worked?

  17. JImbo

@maja: Check him out in Kick-ass first.
It is … wel.. kick ass

  18. Seiko

Prince Of Persia will be the most ovverrated movie of the year easily.
This movie on the other hand will at least be entertaining.
POP will not be. Looks zero like the game, just some kind of extra cheesy Pirates-like version of The Scorpion King 1 and 2.
Jerry needs to go back to Pirates right now.

  19. the movie looks really silly but i love these kinds of movies it could be fun and entertaining to watch

  20. The Jackal

You know what, I had the same response to the first Pirates of the Caribbean trailer when it came out back in Fall '02 – great visuals, epic storyline, bit of humor, lovely girl…crazy guy (though, granted, Johnny Depp is a far better actor than Nic Cage). I was completely wrong about POTC (I enjoyed myself immensely) and I hope I'm wrong here.

I'm looking forward to this…I think.

All this ralk about Nic Cage, what about Alfred Molina? I hope he still has his Doc Oc arms for this movie too!
