Trailer for Paul Haggis's Thriller 'The Next Three Days'
Actually looks rather good

What's your take on Paul Haggis? I've always found his script doctoring to be a bit better than the movies he's directed. I was not a fan of Crash or In the Valley of Elah so while I've included his upcoming film, The Next Three Days as one of this year's Oscar contenders I can't say I am personally excited about it. That is, until I watched the trailer.
Yeah, I broke my rule and watched the trailer for this one and think it looks quite good. Of course, all will depend on how it ends because it isn't exactly treading new territory. Also, I think the high-speed thrill ride aspect of it all means we can probably count it out of the Oscar race, or at the very least bump it down a few notches.
The film is an adaptation of the 2008 French film Pour Elle, in which Crowe will play a teacher whose wife (Elizabeth Banks) is arrested and convicted of a murder she says she did not commit. He comes up with a desperate plan to free her. RZA, Brian Dennehy, Ty Simpkins, Olivia Wilde, Jonathan Tucker, Liam Neeson, Aisha Hinds, Lennie James and Daniel Stern co-star. Haggis wrote the script and directed the film which will hit theaters on November 19.

Looks like a good trailer. I've not seen the original film though.
I don't like all Haggis' work (the Bond films in particular) but I did like 'In the Valley of Elah' more than 'Crash' which I liked but didn't love.
I'll put this on my autumn radar.
That looks pretty cool. Going to get on the original.
Liam Neeson looks incredible in the movie. I think he's vying for a Supporting nod.
'Pour Elle' is nowhere near the same league as other recent gallic thrillers such as 'Tell No one', 'A Prophet', 'Mesrine' or even '36' in my opinion.
I felt there was a lot of room for building on its decent premise with this remake, like 'The Departed' did with 'Infernal Affairs'. Unfortunately, from this trailer, it looks pretty much a shot for shot remake. Which means it will be a solid thriller but nothing particularly special.
You know I have to be honest when I say, as far as Oscar contenders, I have no Idea how their gonna get to 10 nominations for best picture this year.
I would think they'll do what they did last year.
There will be the first tier of five genuine contenders, and you'll have a second tier of five that are there as special guests but have no real shot at winning.
But whose presence will draw in viewers who hope that one of the second tier might since they will be comprised of the more commercial films of the year.
I guess your right, I mean if they would nominate The Blind Side, I guess anything is possible.
I'm tired of this kind of plot, really. Nowadays everything looks the same, storywise. Same music, same trailer, same action sequences, even the same actors. Of course, every now and them an original story comes along. But it is like, 10-15 movies a year, surrounded by a sea of generic plots.
