You've got to see Ong Bak 2 just for the ending

For those that have been paying attention to the career of Tony Jaa, it's been an interesting one so far. Ong Bak served as the Thai action star's breakout feature in 2003, followed by the awful The Protector in 2005 (I never saw The Bodyguard in 2004 or its 2007 sequel and don't even know if they made their way to domestic theaters). Last year I saw Ong Bak 2: The Beginning, which was also pretty bad but will be available on Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday.

For those that saw Ong Bak 2 you already know it had one of the worst open endings in recent cinematic history, but I have to admit I am curious to see where it all goes considering the sequel had nothing to do with the original film, but as the teaser trailer for Ong Bak 3 has just arrived it shows this one will at least carry on the ridiculous plot from the second film. And Twitch even gives us the following synopsis:

The legend of Ong Bak 3 begins after Tien (Tony Jaa) has lost his fighting skills and his beloved stepfather at the Garuda's Wing cliff from the raid led by Jom Rachan (Saranyu Wonggrajang). Tien is brought back to life with the help from Pim (Primrata Dechudom) as well as Mhen (Petchai Wongkamlao) and the Kana Khone villagers. Deep into the meditation taught by Phra Bua (Nirutti Sirijanya), Tien finally is able to achieve 'Nathayut'. His talents are put to the test again when his rivals including the Golden-Armored King's Guard (Supakorn 'Tok' Kijusuwan), the mysterious killers in black, and Bhuti Sangkha (Dan Chupong) return for the final massive showdown.

Perhaps what gets me most is the tagline on the poster, "The Biggest Fight of All is with Himself." The absurdity of it all brings a smile to my face.

Now, stop reading and start watching as elbows and knees fly in the teaser trailer for Ong Bak 3, set to hit Thai theaters in April and who knows when it will arrive in the States.

  1. Ha! Love the headline for this post. Man, I'd sure hate to be a stuntman in a Tony Jaa movie.

They've already made a third one?! Didn't the second Ong Bak come out a few months ago or something?

@Chris138: In the States it came out in October 2009, but it was first released in Thailand in December 2008.

I liked how the same 3 sound effects were used every single time contact was made. Tony Jaa does his own stunts AND the sound editing :)
