How will Martin Scorsese follow-up The Departed? Find out with the trailer for his upcoming film Shutter Island directly below.
The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson and Max von Sydow and is based on teh Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. The film tells the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.
Since I have read the book I gave this trailer a watch since there wasn't much to ruin about the plot and I will say a careful eye can actually figure out the twist at the end so if you like to go into films as fresh as you can this may be one to skip. I am interested to see if Scorsese can pull the twist at the end of this one off without it feeling entirely silly, which is sort of what I thought of it after reading it.
Shutter Island hits theaters on October 2 from Paramount Pictures.
You can check the trailer out in high definition at Apple.com.

OMFG!
New ground for scorsesce, somewhat. but i still feel this looks too much like a normal psycological-esque thriller.
Crap, I think I may have found out what the plot twist was.
Thatnk you!!!! One of my 2 most anticipated films of the year (the other one being The Lovely Bones). I love this trailer! I am currently reading the book and I think it is really good. I hope the twist doesn't disappoint me.
It doesn't even take a careful eye to reveal the twist. It just takes watching the trailer…terrible editing by whoever cut the trailer.
not an oscar contender like i though, but good entertainment value
i love how people like to predict oscar contenders from the very first trailer that comes out.
If you read the book you'd probably realize that the twist is not that mind boggling. That said, I bet Scorsese can take it and turn it on it's head a little. Who says oscar contenders can't have entertainment value?
You know, I might check this one out.
I hated "Raging Bull" and found "Goodfellas" to be mediocre at best, but I loved "Last Temptation of the Christ," so obviously Martin Scorsese can make a good movie. Then again, I despise character sketches of worthless people (Jake LaMotta tops the list of pathetic people we should ignore who somehow still became the subject of a biopic), and the gangster genre isn't my favorite. Since "Shutter Island" appears to be neither, I may end up liking it.
yep they gave away the basic plot of the movie. still worth seeing though.
Can't wait to see this latest addition to the Martin Scorcese library
the twist is out but still this looks good!and very strange genre for Martin Scorsese..
@ian: It isn't very hard to predict Oscar contenders when the name "Martin Scorsese" is in front of a film.
The closest I think Scorsese's come to this genre was probably Cape Fear. At least from what I've seen of the trailer.
Christ, that looks fucking terrible.
@Gary: How is that terrible?
Although the trailer gave away way too much. Shucks.
Hey, can someone email me that has read the book. I wanna see if I guessed the twist right. Dont give anything away, I just wanna know if I have a "keen eye" lol.

I've read the book and seen the trailer. I don't think the trailer gives away the twist. It's up to anyone to speculate.
@Jake: what is it?
