Trailer for Japanese Dolphin Slaughter Doc 'The Cove'
This is a rather disturbing film
I recently caught The Cove as part of the Seattle International Film Festival and boy is it a dark little documentary as it centers on a small cove in Japan where the daily slaughter of thousands of dolphins takes place. As you will see in the recently released trailer, the filmmakers had to use some insane tactics just to capture the footage used in the film. Don't be fooled, this is one trailer that doesn't oversell the actual amount of thrills in this film. In an attempt to reveal the dark secrets in this hidden cove these people actually put their lives on the line and it gets rather intense.

In the 1960's, Richard O'Barry was the world's leading authority on dolphin training, working on the set of the popular television program Flipper. Day in and day out, O'Barry kept the dolphins working and television audiences smiling. But one day, that all came to a tragic end. The Cove, directed by Louie Psihoyos, tells the amazing true story of how Psihoyos, O'Barry and an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers embarked on a covert mission to penetrate a hidden cove in Japan, shining light on a dark and deadly secret. The mysteries they uncovered were only the tip of the iceberg.
The Cove, an intelligent/action/adventure/Ocean's Eleven-like horror film wrapped around a tale of redemption and ultimate revenge – oh, and it’s a documentary.

This is officially on my list! You see, I have just had another exceptionally rewarding experience with a documentary–last year's "Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father"–that completely bested almost all the other crime dramas I've ever watched without ever once straying from the truth, or even from the documentary style. I'm telling you, Brad, if you haven't watched it already, watch it now. It is an emotional kick in the gut that you will not forget in a hurry. I was on another site (I forget which), and the moderators/editors were listing recent tearjerkers or something, and two men in a row–keep in mind these are moderators who are serious about movies, not random internet posters–listed this film. And it really was a tearjerker. I won't go too much into the plot (because I know you don't much appreciate spoilers), but I'll say it starts out pretty "normally"–that is, a young man (and a friend of the director's) is shot to death in a pre-meditated murder by his own girlfriend. What happens after that is most decidedly not normal, and I don't really want to give it away, because it has a couple twists that best even the cleverer Hollywood thrillers.
So yeah. That's about it. Oh, and I'm not talking just to Brad. All you other ropeofsilicon readers should watch it, too.
