Yahoo has released the trailer for Drew Barrymore's feature directorial debut Whip It starring Ellen Page, Zoe Bell, Marcia Gay Harden, Drew Barrymore and Kristen Wiig.

The film centers on a Texas teenager named Bliss (Page) who is tired of being pushed into beauty pageants by her parents, as a result she finds herself after joining a female roller derby team. Whip It will be released by Fox Searchlight on October 9.

Not gonna lie – that looks pretty awful. I was really hoping it would look alright too, but.. a giant, sustained ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

the song choice is way too obvious and conventional too. eck. this just looks unbearably cliche', cheesy, stupid, and anything else related to those words. then again, i guess girls like that stuff?

ultimately, an obvious trailer/movie comes with an obvious statement: it looks like Juno 2: Electric Rollerskate Boogalo.

    I also disagree Chuck…
I've no idea how this is going to pan out, but i don't think an "awful" can be gleamed from this 2.5 minutes.
What i can see: Ellen Page is still talented
Drew Barrymore is still kind of not (what is the deal with that Fran Drescher Laugh???)
Jimmy Fallon looks like a homeless person

I will see this because i really like watching Ellen Page act, but that's not to say this is going to be great. I just think saying a whole movie is going to be awful based on ANY small amount of footage stinks of internet cynicism run amok.

P.S. if you don't mind, which of the 3 songs in the trailer do you think ruined your viewing experience? just curious…

@Ross: Pork n Beans threw me a bit. Retro female vocals, newer female vocals, then Weezer. Just seems odd.

World's Greatest Dad is a Bobcat movie that doesn't seem to be based on bestiality, it might actually be funny.

Looks like a fun night at the movies to me!

@Chuck Bartowski: Girls like "unbearably cliche, cheesy, stupid" things? Wow. Not all of us, thanks though.

Ellen Page is almost always worth watching, and Fox Searchlight obviously saw something of value here. This trailer doesn't wow me, but it might be a decent first effort from Barrymore.
