Not exactly what I would call an impressive debut

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are starring for James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) in the action-comedy Knight and Day and the film's first trailer has debuted at Apple.

During their glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure, nothing and no one – even the now fugitive couple – are what they seem. Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, Cruise and Diaz race across the globe, with their survival ultimately hinging on the battle of truth vs. trust. The film opens on July 2, 2010 and is now shooting in Massachusetts, and will also film on other locations around the world including, Spain, Austria, and the tropics.

The trailer is directly below, and below that is the poster, which debuted recently on the film's Facebook page.

You can watch the trailer in high definition at Apple.

  1. I saw this trailer before the Avatar showing at my theater and it was supreme crap. Cruise has jumped the shark with this one in trying to go back to the stereotypical action genre. His wise cracks were of such bad taste and timing, ugh. It was almost as painful as watching Sarah Palin's resignation speech.

    …this looks cruel and unusual.

James Mangold… what the hell, man?

Jumpin' the shark is the first thing that comes to mind with this trailer. Big explosions and crazy stunts alone don't do it for me. You better come up with a little bit more. Cameron Diaz can't act her way out of a paper bag. Cruise should be looking for better scripts than this. This movie looks like something Shane Black wrote.

Isn't Tom Cruise like better of acting his age and accepting he can't do Comedy? (Yes, I have seen Tropic Thunder and he was labored in that too.) Nevertheless, good to see a trailer that plays like a mini-movie. Very clever.

  6. @Anonymous' Friend: I thought the teaser was awesome. I am not Twilight fan so I know I will probably go see Knight & Day why my little sis goes out to Twilight sequel.

It seems like there is one person who is using multiple accounts to comment here. Anyway check out Tom's official Facebook page @ http://www.facebook.com/officialtomcruise

I thought this looked quite entertaining.

    @adu:
Id have to agree with that.

I liked it. I'd rather a Mr & Mrs Smith sequel but this works.
"No one follows us or I kill myself, and then her" is a great line.

Looks pretty bad, but still looks way better than Mr & Mrs Smith.

I saw this preview before the midnight showing of Avatar last week. Can't say I have any interest in seeing it whatsoever.

The "I kill myself and then her" sold me on this movie, I am seeing it regardless of how crappy it might be

  13. Angel

I liked it. And the great Muse song that was playing in the background.

@Central Ohio: In regards to you saying that Cameron Diaz can't act her way out of a paper bag… I agree she does play the same character quite a bit… but have you seen her in Being John Malkovich, Gangs of New York or Any Given Sunday? All good performances by her, Being John Malkovich being her best in my opinion. I also thought she played a great nut job in Vanilla Sky. I think Tom Cruise picked this movie because it seem like a fun summer action movie… And as far as your Shane Black comment…. have you seen Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang? That movie was full of great lines and is funny as all hell. And he was responsible for Lethal Weapon and the underrated Tony Scott directed, Bruce Willis/Damon Wayans 90's action "classic", The Last Boy Scout. I'm not trying to knock you at all, to each there own…

Over all I think this movie looks fun and entertaining, perfect summer movie fodder. You go to watch this type of movie to just turn off your brain and enjoy the ride. Then you balance that out with a thought provoking Indie flick the following day/week
    It's what I call a well balanced film diet…

    Hey Danny,

I'll give you 'Being John Malkovich' and yes she was pretty good in 'Vanilla Sky' but 'Gangs of New York'? She has no business acting next to Daniel Day Lewis. As far as Shane Black goes Lethal Weapon is his best but that was more than twenty years ago. I'll have to watch 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' again. I don't remember it well but that might be my fault. I love Tony Scott but 'The Last Boy Scout' is not even in my top ten Tony Scott films.

    …good talk though

This looks like a very funny movie. I saw the trailer before Avatar and was supremely intrigued. I'll definitely be watching to see how this movie fares with the critics.

  17. Danny

@Central Ohio: Very true… Daniel Day Lewis was superb in Gangs of New York and you are probably correct about Diaz shouldn't be acting next to him… but at least it was a good flick. Definitely check out Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang again…. and hey, it's based at Christmas time, so there ya go, it's seasonal! Ha Ha. It's just one of those great little flicks that pokes fun at itself/genre without being to self referencial. And Robert Downey Jr has just the right amonut of snark for his role. Yes, I agree that The Last Boy Scout is no where near Tony Scott's best work… (I think True Romance is his best, then Crimson Tide as number 2, and Man on Fire is 3) but it definitely has a guilty pleasure factor to it… for me at least.
