Where will Judd take us next?

Damn near the whole world loves Judd Apatow and his films, but I can't help but grow increasingly tired of all the monotonous sex jokes and hope this one is able to bring a little something different than what we first received in the very funny The 40 Year-Old Virgin followed by the rather repetitive Knocked Up as the new trailer for Funny People, a film that takes place in the world of standup comedy and the focus is on a comedian who has a near-death experience, has just debuted online.
Along with that I have added a few additional photos as well as the poster for the film to the gallery right here.
You can check out the trailer directly below or in high definition at Moviefone. Universal will release Funny People on July 31.
Over the past few years, writer/director Judd Apatow has shown that nothing–not even losing your virginity or the miracle of childbirth–is sacred. About his third film behind the camera, he says, "I'm trying to make a very serious movie that is twice as funny as my other movies. Wish me luck!" Apatow directs Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann in Funny People, the story of a famous comedian who has a near-death experience.
Adam Sandler, Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, RZA and newcomer Aubrey Plaza join a cast that reunites Judd Apatow with Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann and Jonah Hill in their third comedy together.

Being a fan of his other movies im looking forward to this, from the trailer is looks a little different the knocked up and 40 year old virgines style.
Welll, it looks like a "less forced" form of comedy from Apatow. All the other films he's produced or directed have been "shouting sex jokes and obscure cultural references", and that has worn thin. Maybe this will be a step in the right direction towards some subtley. And Adam Sandler looks good in it, which is a big deal for me anyway, since the only Adam Sandler perfromance I like is in the excellent "Punch-Drunk Love"
Wow, this looks pretty deep. I'm definitely anticipating this now.
You had me at: "a film directed by Judd Apatow." I was gaga for Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad & Sarah Marshall – and I'm sure this film will repeat the trend.
I am a bit worried about Mr. Sandler's forray into the world of R-rated comedy – so far all he seems capable of doing are sappy films for his children. Act your raunchy age for once Adam!!
The last joke was hilarious!
I might just be too excited, since I'm a huge Apatow fan, but remember back in 2005, when Entertainment Weekly and other fans of "Virgin" wanted Apatow and crew to get a Best Screenplay Nod? I think that if Apatow plays this right, "Funny People" could be seen in a better light then as "just another sex comedy". Oscar nod? Probably not, but It'll be a step in the right direction for the whole "Bromance" genre.
