'Toy Story' Films Getting 3-D Treatment

Great, can't wait to put the bulky glasses on once again

Forgive me if I am just not that interested in 3-D films. For some reason the glasses and the image give me a headache when I watch a film that long. I'll admit, even though I didn't think Beowulf was a very good film, the 3-D was impressive, but it hasn't been since seeing "Captain EO" at Disneyland that I actually enjoyed a 3-D presentation, because "EO" wasn't that long.

So, with the news yesterday that Disney is going to be releasing the upcoming Pixar venture Toy Story 3 in 3-D as well as re-releasing Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3-D just doesn't interest me. Then again, there is a small level of curiousity since it is Pixar and they aren't exactly a studio to scoff at when it comes to technology.

The release schedule will see Toy Story 3-D hitting theaters on October 2nd, 2009, Toy Story 2 in 3-D on February 12th, 2010 and finally Toy Story 3 on June 18th, 2010. All three films will be taking advantage of Disney's Digital 3-Dâ„¢ technology with Toy Story 1 and 2 director John Lasseter overseeing the creative side of the 3-D conversions with his acclaimed team of technical wizards handling all the necessary steps in the conversion process.

There is a plus side to Pixar's approach as they aren't going to simply take a 2-D print and convert it into 3-D. Instead, they are going to take all of the original digital elements and rebuilding them in 3-D.

As much as I have no care for the 3-D process I will admit this interests me. Personally I think the first Toy Story is fantastic, but I was a bit turned off by the second. Revisiting both in 3-D has a chance of increasing my appreciation or truly turning me off. I hope it is the former, because these aren't films to dislike.
