TOP TEN: Brad's Favorite Movies from the '80s
Classic film fans won't agree with this list
The Thing
Here is a movie I only recently discovered thanks to HD DVD. Thankfully Universal sent me the high-def version and I was introduced to R.J. MacReady for the first time and was absolutely blown away. I honestly think this is one of the greatest horror films of all time.
If you want my full opinion read the HD DVD review right here. Below is someone's edited down seven minute version if you have the time.
Die Hard
This is a "no shit" entry on the list and I was surprised to see it only ranked in at #19 on IMDb's 1980s top 50, but when it comes to action films from the decade of hairspray and glam rock it was Bruce Willis and his receding hairline that comes out on top.
Star Trek II / Star Trek IV
This is probably the entry that will get the most complaints, and I don't have these two films on the list because I am a Trekkie, they are simply on the list because I find both of these movies damned entertaining. They are the only two "Star Trek" movies I have ever actually spent my own money on and remain two of my favorite sci-fi films. Of course, these aren't the special effects extravaganzas you see in sci-fi pictures now, but "Star Trek" was never about effects and these two films have such solid storylines I couldn't keep them from being high up on my personal 10 favorite of the '80s.
Raiders of the Lost Ark / The Last Crusade
Yup, a tie. I am actually just as entertained by The Last Crusade as I am by Raiders of the Lost Ark. On a filmmaking level Raiders certainly dominates, but the addition of Sean Connery and the search for the Holy Grail appealed to me on every level.
Beyond the movies, why don't you take a peek at the video below and see just how kick ass videogames where in the 1980s. It is amazing to think that 25 years ago this is what we were playing.

Little Mermaid!
At the risk of sounding like a snob, I'll say that it was all about Stranger Than Paradise, Down By Law, and Blue Velvet. Stranger Than Paradise and Down By Law are everything that comedies should be (to me, anyways), and I really love the way that Stranger Than Paradise is all about being young and bored. Blue Velvet was awesome, because it's one of the most bizarrely perverted films I've ever seen. I will admit that I'm partial to anything that captures a dark spirit of the suburbs.
THE MOVIE (LEGEND) WITH "TOM CRUISE". FIRESTARTER WITH DREW BARRYMORE, AND THE NEVERENDING STORY AS WELL. GOTTA LOVE THE 80'S.
