Tom Hardy First New Cast Member in 'Batman 3'
Could he be the lead villain?
This should get Bat-fans excited as the first sign of movement on Batman 3 has just been made as Deadline reports Tom Hardy is reuniting with Christopher Nolan to star in an undisclosed lead role in the next Batman film.
Deadline's Mike Fleming speculates on the role saying it's reasonable to assume he'll be taking on a villain role and it would make sense considering the hero role is filled and I don't think he'll be playing a new love interest. The question is, of course, just which villain would he be playing?
Hardy played the role of Eames in Nolan's Inception and was recently prepping to begin work on George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road, but recent production delays halted that project until possibly 2012. No worries, Nolan is here to ensure Hardy's profile remain on the rise.
Hardy recently completed filming Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy for Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) and is currently working on McG's next film, This Means War, a rom-com about two childhood friends (Chris Pine and Hardy) who fall in love with the same woman (Reese Witherspoon).
The plot of Batman 3 has yet to be revealed, but expectation is for the film to begin shooting early 2011 for a July 20, 2012 release.

Hope Joseph Gordon Levitt is still up for one of the roles!
He doesnt seem right for Riddler. Maybe Roman Sionis or one of Ra's League of Assasins members? This would link nicely with Begins.
Whatever role he ends up getting, solid actor and in Nolan we trust.
He's a great actor. I'm glad he's involved.
Black Mask, Hush, perhaps Bane (not likely in Nolan's take on Batman)It has to be a villain with a physical strenght, cause Hardy is an actor with a taste for physical and actions scenes. Boy, the fan opens a lot of posibilities.
I LOVED Tom Hardy in Inception. "You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, dah-ling." Perfect.
This is such great news. I'm thinking Black Mask. His background and burning down of his mansion will echo Bruce Wayne's experience in Batman Begins.
I don't care who Hardy plays, he's an absolute professional
Now all we need to hear is Eva Green or Rebecca Hall cast as Talia.
I actually predicted him as a possibility to be cast in my vision of what the third movie should be, playing a reinvention of the Mad Hatter. Check it out here:

I think this is ideal casting though it sounds like i'm the only one who thinks so for the riddler. Based solely on his performance in bronson, I personally think he'd be entertaining as hell. Just the right kind of crazy. Though he'd have to slim back down to rock'n'rolla size for the role.
I couldn't agree more. More people need to see Bronson to fully understand Hardy's potential as a character actor. I think he'd make a superb Riddler.
That performance was BAFTA worthy. He was insanely convincing!
Tom Hardy's performance in Inception was one of the many great things about Chris Nolan's latest flick and hearing that he's won a role in Batman 3 has me thrilled.
A great villian he would no doubt make. Just wonder who it might be: The Penguin, The Riddler
@Brad Brevet: Do you think there is any chance that Joseph Gordon-Levitt could be cast and then revealed as Robin? He's certainly young enough to portray The Dark Knight's most famous sidekick and I'm sure Chris Nolan would go down a much darker road with the character than Joel Schumacher ever dreamed of.
Very good casting I think. There is no doubt that Hardy is a fantastic actor and his career is deservedly on the up. I'm not quite sure which villian he will play, I just hope it's no the Riddler.
Tom Hardy as The Riddler is perfect. Love this news.
If not The Riddler, he should be Mr. Zsasz. That would be amazing. Maybe Ventriliquist and Scarface.
That last one would be an amazing villain to put on-screen.
Holy shit! This is awesome.
Could he possibly be Robin? Nolan could definitely change Robin from a wimpy side kick to a Batman-like s&*% kicker. Thoughts?
Nolan said NO ROBIn. BAle said the same thing. NEver gonna happen.
Black Mask hopefully
OHHH GOD, Super-excited. Top notch, I would expect nothing less from Mr. Nolan and I already calculated this possibility. But didn't think I would casting news this soon.
cont….didn't think I would HEAR casting news this soon.
Lots of buzz online about his character being being Killer Croc.
Rules out by Nolan when he announced The Dark Knight… It'll never happen in Nolan's Gotham.
Did he actually saw "no Killer Croc ever"?
A more realistic Killer Croc suited to Nolan's universe has been done before.
First off, regardless of what role he plays it's great to have Hardy in the film. He was absolutely incredible in 'Bronson' and did great in 'Inception' so it's awesome to see him getting more high profile gigs.
As for the part he plays, while The Riddler wouldn't shock me, I have personally been praying for Black Mask from the start of Nolan's tenure on Batman. Hush could also be a home run for Hardy but I'm pulling Sionis on this one.
Why don't he just bring back Liam Neeson as Ra's Al-Ghul, yeah I mean it look like he died, but who knows maybe he got away. You know he does have that life span in the comics. And make a story saying something like he sent the Joker there to destory Gotham. Also bring in his Ra's daugher Talia, that be cool.
And the Killer Croc idea, I think, just a thought maybe he doesn't have to be a mutate croc. He could be just an expert crocodile killer or something like that.
What do you guys think?
As much as I like Al-Ghul as a character it would be too big a lapse in believability to bring him back. Once The Dark Knight made things completely 'realistic' in tone any chance of him surviving the crash pretty much went out the window. Besides, no offense, but Ra's being involved anyway with the Joker completely undermines his story and is just silly. Talia being brought in makes much more sense.
As for Croc, I say leave him out. I'd rather have one of the more simple villains than a watered down version of one.
Exactly what is the point in having Killer Croc in a Nolan film? This isn't going to be a Saturday morning DC comic kid's cartoon.
Has everyone just closed their eyes and their ears throughout BB and TDK?
Please can someone please, please give me a suitable answer?
Hey, hey, hey why don't you just relax buddy. As you see it was just a thought, alright, just a thought, and Trevor give a good point. So chill baby. The point of that is he'll be a vallian, but Trevor give a good point. So don't overkill. All right.
TOM HARDYY! HELL YES
Hardy is an excellent choice for any film, though I was hoping that he would be picked for the role of Zod in Nolan's upcoming Superman reboot. As for guessing the villain that he'll play, there are two things that come to mind: 1) The 3rd Batman film will have to pursue a storyline where the police are hunting the Batman as a murderer; thus, it stands to reason that the story could contain some sort of psychological profiling by the authorities and 2) Hardy's superbly manic performance in Bronson. Best guess for Hardy's villain: Hugo Strange.
Since Nolan has a habit of reusing actors, in retrospect not fully surprising news.
He could be a love interest, did you see him in "Rocknrolla"? Ubderrated flick. Anyway, looked him up in imdb, I did not know he was in "Black Hawk Down". Who wasn't in that movie.
Yeah, I believe Black Hawk Down was his very first movie. He actually had a pretty good amount of screen time, considering he had never been in anything before and it was a Jerry Bruckheimer production. It's weird watching that now and seeing all these faces of actors who weren't well known back then, such as Tom Hardy, Jeremy Piven, Hugh Dancy and Orlando Bloom.
Even Emmy Nominees like Zeljko Ivanek and Ty Burrell.
He would be great as Bane or Hush.
heya my names adam im a big batman fan it will be very hard for the next batman villian to top heath ledger in the dark knight as the joker.if they bring out the new batman they should keep the joker in it with two more villians the riddler played by johnny depp and catwomen played by megan fox.The new joker should be giving back to jack nicolsen or give it to colin farrell
Daniel Day-Lewis as the Joker
