Warner Bros. recently sent out a press release announcing the start of production on Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, but today's Bat-related nugget is sure to be more interesting for you as the official site (via SlashFilm) for the film has revealed the first look at Tom Hardy (Inception, Bronson) as the film's villain, Bane.

Very creepy! Keeping the vibe from the last two movies, since both the Scarecrow and Joker could very well be slasher villains. Can't wait to see how Catwoman will look like!!

The cast still feels incomplete and like it's missing key characters.
I hope the climactic fight between Christian Bale and Tom Hardy will knock everyone on their ass and be so amazing and action-packed, audiences all over the world will be left breathless.
What i'm actually curious is the voice work that'll go with this….tom hardy has a pretty distinct dialog delivery…will that come through this apparatus ?…

I don't think this guy is meant to be a hannibal lecter type. He thinks clearly, concisely and tactically.

I still think hugo strange will be in the movie as a big surprise, maybe it won't be revealed until the film is nearly released but I just have a really good feelin he is in it.. Either way I can't wait to see this shit.. Most anticipated movie of next yr for me. Until then green lanterns light!!

@ Alejandro Roggio, you do realise that 'hispanic' isn't a race and that people who are from central America who are caucasian tend to be descendants from Western Europe… Just like Hardy.
I'd say Hardy's come is very close to Bane's in Knightfall.

@ Alejandro Roggio In the comics Bane's Dad is a British Crime Boss and his Mum is Hispanic (I think) so racially speaking Tom Hardy is fine. The comics themselves often depict as being rather fair skinned also.
Tom hardy ,michael fassbender ,James mcavoy names to be conjured with ,British actors on an upward curve .
If john simm were given a shot in Hollywood he,d top that lot ,terrific character actor back in the uk.
Wouldn't it be interesting if Joseph Gordon-Levit's role turned into the character of Azrael??? If you read the comics Azrael is the other character in there …….
My guess is the mask has something to do with Venom and he might actually need to wear it to sustain life or something. Also, that DEFINITELY looks like a cat eye and I commend whoever noticed that. Also, I think Bane is gonna have a lot to do with The League of Shadows because we know there will be flashbacks involving Ra's Al Ghul and Bane after all is more than likely the main villain. Perhaps Mr.Ghul is even the person who made his mask in order to give himself a better soldier. Bane might even be looking for revenge because he sees Batman as the cause of Ghul's death. This is also really out there, but maybe Bane is even Ghul's son in Nolan's re-imagining.
I don't think it's a mask at all… I think it's his left hand resting on his chin/covering his mouth. His left elbow is on his knee, and so he's sort of supporting his face in his palm. If you check out the high res, you can clearly see what looks like fingers… So I don't think that's a mask at all – covering his mouth at least… His mouth may be open. Just what I'm seeing, I could be wrong, but those def. look like his fingers.
