Title and Character Art for Fox's Animated Feature 'Rio'
Get a nice big look at Blu
20th Century Fox has revealed an official piece of title art and the first look at the lead animated character from Rio set to hit theaters on April 8, 2011 from the makers of the Ice Age films.
The blue macaw you see above is aptly named Blu and he's voiced by Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland) and is the lead character in Rio, an upcoming animated feature set in Rio de Janeiro and the lush rainforest of Brazil. Blu thinks he is the last of his kind, but when he discovers there's another he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio. But it's far from love at first sight between the domesticated and flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway). Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on an adventure of a lifetime, where they learn about friendship, love, courage, and being open to life's many wonders. "Rio" brings together a menagerie of vivid characters, a heart-warming story, colorful backdrops, energizing Latin and contemporary music, and family-friendly song and dance.
The trailer first hit back in mid-May, but I have included an updated HD version directly below. You can get a slightly larger look at the picture above in the RopeofSilicon gallery for Rio right here.

If the movie is anywhere near as fun as that teaser trailer, then it's going to be amazing.
This is going 2 b cool
I think this movie looks great. My son, who is in the animation business was very impressed with the feathers. He says that doing feathers is difficult enough, but animating believeable feathers can be a bitch.
That actually looks pretty great. Excellent animation, at least. It might even be worth the extra 3D surcharge considering how the setpieces take advantage of the "depth" in the screen.
I Love Rio de Janeiro.
Looks A LOT better than some of the other animated bullshit (eg. Planet 51) that studios stick in theaters. I enjoyed Ice Age 2 and Ice Age 3, but not as much as I enjoyed Robots. I'm excited to see if 20th Cnetury Fox and Blue Sky can pull of another good movie that isn't part of the Ice Age Trilogy.
