A double Avatar video post today as the latest domestic trailer has now debuted on Yahoo and is included directly below.

Avatar is the upcoming 3-D fantasy epic from James Cameron telling the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people.

You can check out the trailer directly below or in high definition right here. Also, remember to check out the three other videos from the film I added to the site this morning right here.

W.O.W. That looks like a masterpiece. Pure and simple.

Thanks for the trailer.I think after watching this trailer if people aren't convinced then this movie is not for them and they should stop commenting about this movie. In my opinion it's the best trailer they could release it and it proves why this movie is such a epic and why James Cameron is still best in the business today also. I am going on opening night for this movie for sure in Imax 3d .I don't need to say anything more I will just go and watch it just like I did with Titanic there still people who hate Titanic but it's still the highest grossing film ever and won 11 Academy Awards. So online blog haters if you don't watch this movie it will be still a big hit.

Now that’s what I am talking about .This is the trailer we have been waiting for great to see some Avatar Day footage mixed in too. This is a must watch in 3d it will not look animated or unreal in 3d I promise you that. Now it’s only up to the audiences to go and watch it and make it a big hit like Terminator 2.Remember Sherlock Holmes will not damage this movie because it’s gonna last at least 3d months in 3d theaters in Imax and it’s gonna be on a longer run than the other movies. So it will pick in it’s second and third week and make more money like his other movies did.I won’t go on the opening weekend and tell that if the movie open to 65 million that it is a flop it depend on the longer run.As far I am concerned Avatar won’t go easily out of theaters and people who don’t know anything about Avatar will a lot of time to come and watch it again and again.

Finally the epic trailer is here .I have been waiting for this movie since it was announced .I just want to say that if you have not seen this movie in IMAX3D, you have no idea what it is like. I was lucky enough to watch 20 minutes of the movie and to this day I cant forget the experience. It was mind bending, colorful, one of a kind thrill ride. I actually got emotionally involved in every scene because I can easily say I was at Pandora. When James said you'll be inside of this movie and you'll be dreaming while being awake, he meant it. This will change the way you watch movies forever. And the CGI on your monitor vs IMAX3D. Those blue Elves become real, every emotion, movement and voices, it all comes to life. Just see it.

It looks good if a bit more on the nose than I was expecting. I was hoping for a bit of grey area between the marines and the Avi.

I think it was smart to release footage so early because I was able to deal with the disappointment of it not being "revolutionary" and now I've moved on. I'm just pumped for a cool space epic.

  6. Sid

I think I was dissappointed by the first trailer as it was suppose to be teaser trailer. But man this trailer rocks man count me in .I would like to what James Cameron done with the 3d thing. Will watch it in 3d now on opening night.

  7. @Satish Naidu: In my comment on the august 20th news item, I had tried to decipher the story. As it turns out, I was right. Mr. Cameron might have advanced technology at his disposal, but he sure as hell has a lame storyline department. After 10 years, we get this sci-fi humans are bad bullshit?
Oh come on. Where is the next great science fiction, that can truly dazzle our minds, and actually puts to good effect cinema. Avatar looks absolutely simplistic.

    Sigh.

  8. ChrisUK

This looks so much better than the first trailer.

The wannabe brave heart speech is a bit rubbish though. I hope Worthington is better in this that he was in T4.

This trailer sets the scene well for a possible awesome film experience, colour me excited (up from 'yeah..ok').

Although, it could just be Return of the Jedi's The Battle for Endor' with lanky smurfs instead of furry midgets….that film got a ton of hate about the natives beating the Empire – surely Avatar will fall into the same trap unless the Na'vi have something REALLY special to fight back with.

  9. justincase

Far better than last trailer but still not 'revolutionary' in any sense of the word. We were promised the fx would be game changers and I just don't see that. The aliens are the weakest part; they look just as phony as you would've expected ten years ago. That being said, it still might be a good movie, just not some epic cinematic lifetime event that it's been hyped as. How Peter Jackson can say this will change fx as we know it when it's no better than LOTR or Kong, I don't know.

HOLY CRAP LOOK AT THIS PIC OF JAKE

This movie will blow everybody away.

  11. Gomes

This movie will make it's mark .I think all these years we have been hearing about how good it is now it's good to finally see a epic trailer.Looks like James Cameron wants to back with a bang.

  12. Ben

    @nick:

it looks plastic and fake and CGI. it doesn't look photorealistic.

  13. Orgy

@justincase: @justincase: When they talk about the graphics being photorealistic and game-changing, they're talking about when you watch in 3D. You know, the format it was filmed in. It made a huge difference seeing it in 3D, and I went into the preview skeptical as hell after seeing the teaser. Whatever the 3D viewing process does to my brain, nothing I saw kept me from disconnecting and saying, "Hey, that's CG!" It was literally incredible.

I hate to say it, because it sounds like a cop-out, but a person really has no room to talk on the digital effects until they've seen it in 3D. The Fusion camera system was developed for this movie, so it's not like saying, "I know you thought Beowulf sucked, but you should see it in 3D, it's totally trippy."

Judging the CG from a Quicktime trailer is a little like watching No Country For Old Men on a busy train station TV and saying it was boring and slow. This is an instance where the only way to accurately judge something is to watch it the way it was meant to be seen. Sucks we can't watch 3D on our computers, but that might fit into the whole "game-changer/this will make people excited about going to the movie theater" idea behind this.

  14. justincase

@Orgy: Fair enough but, unless I'm wrong, this movie is not being released exclusively in 3D right? Which means the majority of people who see it in regular theatres will probably not be wowed by the fx. Not to mention that lessens the impact the film will have in future viewings via DVD or Bluray or whatever. I'm expecting a rather large "hate it/love it" debate regarding the fx for years to come. It seems to me if 3D is the only way to truly enjoy this film then it's doomed to be a commercial failure (especially given the rumored budget) and possibly a critical one since the story doesn't seem to be anything particularly original or, IMO, interesting.

  15. Orgy

@justincase: Yeah it'll be on a lot of 2D screens too, but it's pretty crazy how many 3D screens are in America now (a huge chunk of them were installed because of all the game JC and Jon Landau have been talking for years) – almost 4,000, last I read. So the 3D experience will be a lot more available than any other movie.

JC has said in every in-depth interview that he stacked the Avatar chips in favor of interesting characters and a compelling story, rather than visuals, because he knew the 3D format failed once before from bad movies being made with only "3D" in mind. He designed it to be an enthralling movie to watch in 2D and 3D, with the 3D experience being a colossal bonus. So, I suppose the success of Avatar depends on the people's word-of-mouth a lot more than, say, a Spider-Man movie.

Obviously I want it to be a good movie, and I have a little faith in JC to boot, but watching that preview in 3D gave me an almost knowing confidence that the 3D experience is something that will compel people to keep dragging their skeptical friends to the theaters over and over again after it's out. Its impact on movie-going has a LOT of potential, and that alone is exciting enough sometimes.

  16. anyone gonna mention that THIS IS IT only made $7 million on wednesday? doesn't seem too record breaking to me…

  17. Matt

I'm a tad bummed out. This should be okay, but it won't reinvent the wheel.

  18. justincase

@Orgy: I want it to be good, too, and I have faith in Cameron as far as providing entertaining action/sci-fi films goes. Not so much with complicated or intelligent character-driven stories. But that's another issue altogether.

As to the commercial success – if I'm not mistaken, Up is the highest grossing 3D film to date and it's made around $292mil in over 3800 theaters. This movie is rumored to cost over $300m, and I've heard numbers as high as $400mil, which would mean it would have to be one of the highest grossing films of all time to recoup its money. Especially if it can only 'truly be enjoyed' as a 3D experience, which makes its value as a DVD or BluRay pretty much worthless IMO until technology catches up with it.

  19. Tim

Looks cool! One quick question: How the hell does Michelle Rodriguez still get work let alone a Cameron movie? she is a horrific actress, single handedly almost ruined an entire season of Lost.

  20. babypook

What's wrong with a story about fighting for your homeland, falling in love, and riding on the backs of great beasts?
    sheesh.
He knows what he's doing. The chemistry in Titanic is what, "lives on".

  21. chewbaca69

    that was a good movie.

  22. connor

this will be good. for sure.

  23. Shaz

It seems that people have forgotten that sci-fi is not just about cool visuals amped with 3D. It is also about intelligent, revolutionary and ORIGINAL ideas. I, like many others, will surely watch this film and it will probably earn it's estimated millions but to call it a revolutionary, path breaking, sci-fi film is a great folly. This film would not be there if Ferngully and Dances with Wolves didn't exist. At best it looks like what video games adaptations should look like and don't.

  24. Vik

This trailer is what finally made me give in to the mania even though I agree with Shaz.

  25. gilmore

Can someone explain to me why this move is coming off as novel to everyone?? Just wondering, it looks like a textbook story line.
