This Weekend at the Movies: December 4, 2009

An interesting mix of new releases you probably won't go see
Brothers and Everybody's Fine are getting the widest distribution, Armored wasn't screened for critics, Up In the Air is landing in only 15 theaters and The Last Station is only in New York and L.A. before expanding on January 15. Hmmm, not a lot to pick from when it comes to "new" releases.

| It's pretty good, but not great. I will admit if you have friends that love discussing movies afterwards this one leaves room open for some good conversations. However, with it arriving in only 15 theaters this weekend I have a feeling it's going to be a while before I get to hear your thoughts. To check the current theater listings just visit this page right here. This film is rated R for language and some sexual content. | |

| I gave this one a rather blase review so I feel it is my duty to tell you two of the people I saw this with liked it quite a bit, and both actually cried at the end. I have a feeling this is a film that will play quite well for those that connect to it, and perhaps see a little bit of their own father in Robert De Niro's character. So if you've read my review and are ready to skip it, give the trailer a second glance from that perspective. After all, you cold do far worse. This film is rated PG-13 for thematic elements and brief strong language. | |

I'm right there with you on "Brothers." It succeeds solely on the acting talent, most especially Tobey Maguire. But the story is somewhat dull. I think "Up in the Air" is among the finest films of the year, and Anna Kendrick should be nominated for her performance. Truly stunning stuff. "Everybody's Fine" is awful, in my opinion. I saw it on Monday and have mostly forgotten about it.
I'm going to see Brothers tonight. The reviews have been pretty lukewarm, but I love watching good acting no matter how mediocre the story is. All three of the leads look to be putting in solid performances. Plus, I love me some Natalie Portman.
Fuck me! How airbrushed is De Niro? He looks like he's been motioncapped.
where was the poster puzzle today?
Driving an hour to see Up in the Air tomorrow. Hope it's worth it!
