| I just reviewed the Blu-ray edition (read that here) and highly recommend it as I think this movie was certainly relevant when it was originally released, but in the time between sort of fell into obscurity. But now, 15 years later, it seems it is more relevant than ever, but I can't help but wonder if j_kad's comment on my review holds some water… Has the attention span of people changed so much that they can't figure out this movie? | |

| Solid thrills and lots of laughs, Sam Raimi's return to horror is a success and in my opinion his best yet. Then again, I am not a fan of his Evil Dead films so take that for what you consider it to be worth. Sara just wrote up a review of the DVD edition (read it here) and I have (unfortunately) not found a chance to watch the Blu-ray but hope to any day now. Sara recommends it as a rental, but I don't foresee a special edition of this one in the near future and would say that while it is light on special features, just go ahead and but it now. | |

| It made a TON of money at the box-office, but that doesn't mean it was any good. You can read my review right here or Sara's kinder take on the DVD edition right here. If you go by my recommendation this will be the last time you ever think of this movie and if you go by Sara's you will give it a rent. Just think, my way saves you money and in this economic climate that is saying a lot. | |

Land of the Lost | |

| Universal typically sends me everything they release for preview. This one hasn't shown up yet, which is quite a surprise considering this is a film that was savaged by critics to the tune of a 26% RottenTomatoes rating, followed by a dismal $49 million box-office return on a reported budget of $100+ million. I would think they would want as much advertising as possible. Then again, I wouldn't watch this film a second time so they probably made the correct decision. I just didn't like this film one bit and you can get my theatrical review right here should you be interested. | |

South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut | |

| Ugh, I just watched this new Blu-ray release and was praying my ten-year-old opinion was off, but it wasn't. This movie STINKS, and this is coming from a longtime supporter of "South Park." The Blu-ray comes with an audio commentary from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, which is worth a listen, but is hardly reason enough to waste your money on this awful, awful movie. | |

We'll agree to disagree, I'm sure. "South Park", I truly believe, is one of the best animated movies (or comedies even) of all time. As tasteless & rude as it is, it's still a sharp, hilarious satire of our mass media culture.
Also, Matt & Trey are notorious for not doing commentaries for episodes of the show or for their films, so to hear them talk about the making of the movie is kinda a monumental event. One that I'll pony up the $20 for, definitely.
I must be the only person to like Land of the Lost. Maybe because I watched it with my 15 year old son, I "dumbed" myself down?
Okay, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut is probably the single best TV to movie adaptation of all time. Every other show just did a longer version of an episode but South Park was one of the few that tried to be theatrical. It was also hilarious.
"Drag Me to Hell" is the only good 2009 release coming to DVD this week, it seems. I just plain loved every minute of it. "The Proposal" was terrible, and "Land of the Lost" was even worse, though neither is the worst film of the year.
As for the announced DVDs that I've seen, I was mostly impressed with "District 9," but it's far from the best of the year in my opinion (more on that in a couple of months). I also was not a fan of "(500) Days of Summer."
I LIKED (500) Days of Summer. It is the best romantic comedy of the year! That's saying something, considering the year of The Ugly Truth and All About Steve.
