Be sure to check out the new release dates listed at the end of this week's post. The release date for that 70th Anniversary DVD and Blu-ray edition of The Wizard of Oz has been announced.

The Seventh Seal and Bergman Island (Criterion Collection)
I just reviewed the Blu-ray edition of this release and it is an absolute must buy. Not only do you get one of the greatest films I have ever seen in an absolutely stellar presentation, but you also get the fantastic 83-minute documentary Bergman Island. The film is also being released on two-disc special edition DVD, but that release doesn't come with Bergman Island included, which is why I certainly recommend the Blu-ray edition if you are so equipped.

You can read my Blu-ray review right here for further product description, but if I were you I would skip that noise, click the "Buy Now" button just below and add this one to your cart. It is a must own for any film lover.

Ghostbusters
The fanboys around the Internet are all a twitter over this Blu-ray release, and while I was a fan of Ghostbusters when it was released back in 1984 I have a hard time getting excited over it now. As much as everyone else also seems excited about the possibility of a Ghostbusters 3, that too escapes me. Sure, when I was seven Ghostbusters had me hooked, but I just don't seem to care anymore. Perhaps I should give it another shot, it is available for Instant Play on Netflix.

"Lost" Seasons One and Two [Blu-ray]
Buena Vista Home Entertainment has their sights set on your pocketbooks as they release not one season of "Lost" on Blu-ray today, but the first two seasons in what they are describing as "The High Definition Collection" on the box art. This means all four season of "Lost" are now available in high-definition with the fifth season already set for release on December 8. Neither of these releases comes with any new features outside of the fantastic "Season Play" feature, which remembers where you left off each time you stop playback and helps to shuffle you through the season much smoother. It really is a great feature, especially when you are going from disc-to-disc and don't want to deal with waiting for menus and other garbage to load. I would think Blu-ray owners and fans of "Lost" would be all over these releases, but then again almost $100 in one shot is a tough pill to swallow if you already own these seasons on standard DVD (which all of the features on these discs are still presented in by the way).

Dr. Strangelove (45th Anniversary Edition)
I am debating on whether or not I want to upgrade my current DVD edition of this dark comedy Kubrick classic or not. Amazon has it listed for $22.49, which seems like a fair price and DVD Beaver's screen capture comparisons are awfully impressive. Dammit, I think I just convinced myself.

Miracle / The Greatest Game Ever Played
I have never seen The Greatest Game Ever Played and Miracle is a film I enjoyed the first time I saw it but haven't had a desire to watch it again. Disney did send me both of them to check out, so I may have to give Greatest Game a chance, after all I think I would rather watch Shia LaBeouf battle it out at the U.S. Open than attempt to revisit Transformers before my screening of Transformers 2 next Monday.

Friday the 13th [2009]
I just reviewed the Blu-ray edition of this one right here. If you aren't interested in reading that I will give you the short version… If you've seen this movie it doesn't get better the second time.

Friday the 13th, Part 2 / Friday the 13th, Part 3 3D
There is only so much coverage one site should be required to do when it comes to one particular franchise and Friday the 13th is really pushing it this week with no less than six different releases starting with Paramount's continued dedication to the original franchise and the release of Parts II and III on Blu-ray this week. I have not had a chance to watch the Blu-ray presentation of either of these, but if it's anything like the Blu-ray release of the original, which I reviewed back in February they are probably worth picking up. I know I definitely plan on watching both, especially Part III, which comes with two pairs of 3-D glasses. I have never seen the film in 3-D and as much as I know these DVD 3-D editions suck I am still curious.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter / Friday the 13th, Part V: A New Beginning / Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives
There is nothing I can say that Sara hasn't already said in here extensive look back at these three releases. Check it out if you are interested, it's a good read.

Morning Light
Uh, I can't generate even an ounce of enthusiasm for this film. Perhaps those of you out there in the Transpac Yacht Race will find this doc interesting. If so, have at it!

Hey Brad, I think the reason why the internets is afire with "Ghostbusters" talk (I made reference to this on your review of "Friday the 13th The Killer Cut") is due to the fact that the new video game releases today, which is basically supposed to be the "True" Ghostbusters 3 (a.k.a. none of this "reboot the series with new characters" crap). There's a huge group of people I know personally that will go buy the game and the new Blu-Ray edition of the film same day, so maybe that's why it's so hyped.

HA! Delgo is getting a DVD release date. Man, what a waste of film reel. I didn't see it, but less than 700,000 on a wide release weekend is pathetic.
