This Week On DVD and Blu-ray

This Week On DVD and Blu-ray: January 5, 2010

Light schedule this week as the new year is off to a slow start

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
I just reviewed the Blu-ray edition (read that here) and was unfortunately unimpressed. At 81 minutes I expected a brisk and entertaining film, but what I got was a film that runs about 20 minutes too long and seemed to get worse and worse as the remaining minutes ticked away.

The Final Destination
I can't bring myself to watch what I truly hope is the final installment in this frachise again. I was extremely disappointed in this film after my interest was piqued at Comic Con last year. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

Now here's a film that isn't all that bad, but I would only recommend it as a rental at this point. You can read my review for a complete breakdown, but in short it's a well-acted film that falls apart due to a script that shows very little patience. The film just rushes itself to the point it loses a lot of its believability, but I would still say it's worth a once over.

10 Things I Hate About You (10th Anniversary Special Edition)
I also just reviewed this latest edition of a personal favorite of mine (read that here). This latest edition offers up a new featurette (using a lot of archived material) as well as a brand new audio commentary. Considering the Blu-ray is priced $7 higher than the DVD I would recommend going the standard definition route. Because if you don't already own this film it's certainly a fun one to add to your collection.

Have you heard anything about the movie "Gettysburg (1993)" comming out on Blue-Ray? That is the only movie that I really wont to replace from DVD to Blue-Ray at this time.
