Bronson
Bronson made my Top 25 of 2009 coming in at #7 and it's a film I find immensely watchable and rewatchable. While a few people disagreed with my "A" review, they all loved Tom Hardy in the lead role. Be sure to check this one out.
Buy Bronson
A Serious Man
The Coen brothers' latest film also made my Top 25 of 2009 coming in at #25 and I also just recently reviewed the Blu-ray edition. My opinion says buy it, but you may want to give my review a read if you are on the fence.
Buy A Serious Man
The Time Traveler's Wife
I actually don't mind this movie all that much. When it comes to schmaltzy melodramas some can be overbearing and some can actually work… for the most part this one falls into the latter category. This one drew some negativity for the rather creepy idea of a grown man appearing naked in the woods in front of a young girl and then falling in love with her, but if you're able to get over that you should be alright. And considering we are talking about a film where a guy can travel through time shouldn't you already be ready for absurd ideas in the first place?

I gave the film a "C+" in my theatrical review, which says give it a rent. I wouldn't necessarily recommend you buy it though.

Buy The Time Traveler's Wife
The Stepfather
I just finished watching this not more than ten minutes ago and it isn't terrible, but if you watch the following video you'll get an idea of what kind of scares your in for and click here for yet another horror cliche it relies on.

Buy The Stepfather
Couples Retreat
I did not mind this movie as much as most every other critic out there, but I will say it has one of the worst third acts out there. Again, a rental won't hurt, but a purchase certainly will. You worked way too hard to earn that money, don't waste it on this title.
Buy Couples Retreat
Good Hair
Solid movie right here, but it's probably more of a rental than a purchase considering I can't see you watching it more than once. To that point, be sure to rent it before either The Time Traveler's Wife or Couples Retreat.

That Charlie Chaplin collection looks great, ridiculously cheap price.

  2. Vince (Not Vance)

For all two of you who are interested, I hear that the "Dante's Inferno: Animated Epic" is horrible, so…there you go.

They're releasing "Alvin 2" already? Dude, it'll have been barely 3 months by the time it hits store shelves!

I thought stepfather was very similar to Disturbia. Instead of a crazy neighbor, it is a crazy stepdad. just didnt enjoy this movie very much. Amber Heard was beautiful though

  4. The Stepfather could have been good if it wasn't for some glaring editing errors and lapses in general logic. It was otherwise well acted and surprisingly suspenseful.

I loved A Serious Man and can't wait to watch it again.

I don't understand some released dates, I bought Couples Retreat on Friday. I don't know why that store already had it on shelves…

Time Traveler's Wife was very good, definitely worth a rent, and if it's your genre, it's worth a buy. I didn't find anything creepy about it because obviously Eric Bana's character falls in love with the grown-up version of Rachel McAdam's character.

Good Hair is also worth a rent. Funny, interesting, informative, and entertaining. But not much of a rewatch.

Couples Retreat is absolutely awful. Not as bad as Transformers 2, but that isn't for lack of trying. It's not really that painful to watch until the last third (the Guitar Hero sequence was especially cringeworthy), but upon reflection, none of the jokes in the first 2/3 works, either. It's just a colossal miscalculation on every count, from the unlikeable characters to the premise to the WTF execution of said premise. Even the sex jokes, which I normally love, just came off as weird or uncomfortable. And I say this as someone who loves "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" with all my heart, and who watches NC-17 movies on a regular basis, so it's not about being a prude. It's just about the whole idea of sex in this movie being treated with a mix of weird awkwardness slapped up against stuff like obvious erections during a massage period and scenes that gay-suggestive scenes that manage to be both gleeful and slightly homophobic at the same time (rather hard to pull off, really). Overall, just a really awful film. Don't watch it.
